Introduction: [00:00:00] Welcome to the #PirateBroadcast™, where we interview #interestingpeople doing #interestingthings. Where you can expand your connections, your community, #kindnessiscool and #smilesarefree. Let’s get this party started.

Russ Johns: [00:00:10] It's a good day for a #PirateBroadcast™ and I just want to thank everyone for joining in. Supporting the #PirateBroadcast™ and continuing to be amazed by all of these incredible people that we have in our community. And today is no exception. I met Joy through Michael P. He's been on here. He's pirate. He's been out there in the world and thank you, Michael, for the introduction. Joy's an incredible human being. I can tell right now and is going to be a wonderful pirate. So thank you for being here. Joy. Good morning. How are you doing today?

Joy Resor: [00:00:48] Good morning, Russ. Thank you. I'm great. And I'm almost always great. And I'm happy to be here with you. Thank you.

Russ Johns: [00:00:58] Yeah. I have a tendency to be in a positive mood. Most of the time I wake up with #gratitude and know that there may be bumps in the road, but those are the things that teach us the lessons in life that we need to learn. So it's always a pleasure to experience that.

Joy Resor: [00:01:15] Exactly. I resonate with that. And when I looked you up, I resonated so much with everything. And I have a gratitude practice every morning. That's part of my spiritual practice, which is a little longer.

Russ Johns: [00:01:29] Yeah. Yeah. It's really amazing to see how life changes when you have a little bit of #gratitude in your world.

Joy Resor: [00:01:37] Exactly. Yes. I think a lot of us, when we are this grateful and loving life, we have come through  the goeth bologna of having negative repeating thoughts. And they're like, I used to believe, oh my gosh, the worst is going to happen. And I have changed my outlook.

Russ Johns: [00:02:04] How did that take place in your world? How did it take place in your life as a result of, was it a moment in time? Was it an evolution? Was it a slow and evolving? Walk us through that because this is important. I think it's important for people to understand that you don't have to stay where you are.

Joy Resor: [00:02:26] Thank you. I think that for me, it was, there are key moments that I can name and it definitely was a journey of evolution. The things that are coming up are the time that my son was driving to Columbus, Ohio from near Cleveland, Ohio. And I was like, don't get in an accident. And I was aware that I was seeing the worst that could happen. He left and I just saw angels surrounding his car and him having a wonderful experience. And that was one of my shifts. Another time I was in a journaling class, the topic was wild. I was sitting there writing to the questions, realizing I have lived with white gloves on. I have been such a good little girl and here I was in my forties taking this class, realizing that these cages of my youth. I was the one with the key to the cage and I started, I wrote a poem about it. I, I started living differently. I stood in a circle of women and twirled around and said, I'm going to take up space. Because I had been little Joy. And then I thought I was so little, I used to hide so well that no one would find me. And I valued invisibility. Being invisible was the safe approach in my house growing up. So if I could stay out of the way, wouldn't receive what was happening. And I now know that, I am not hiding whatsoever. I am more and more visible. My books are touching more and more lives because these books well, and then I'll say one more thing about that evolution. I wrote in a journal every day for a very long time. A prayer to become the Joy I am created to be. And that was the capital J cause this is my given name. I wanted to become who I really am. And I don't know how many people have that desire in their hearts, Russ, becoming who we really are. It's so beautiful. It's effortless and it's fun. It's fun.

Russ Johns: [00:05:24] Yeah. For years and I still... now I think it's a journey for me, for myself. It's a journey of discovery because I'm not there yet. I'm still becoming me and discovering new elements that bring happiness and bring joy and curiosity. And through this whole #PirateBroadcast™ and, talking to individuals like yourself that are just so amazing and doing different things and enjoying life and discovering what their passion is or discovering who they are after having being so small for so many years. This is the fascinating thing about humanity is the ability for us to actually change and blossom and become something new every day. And I think it's important for us to recognize that and applaud that change and that evolution and having little Joy become Joy today.

Joy Resor: [00:06:41] Thank you. And you're right. And I don't mean to ever say I'm finished because I do feel that we are forever able to continue evolving into better versions of who we are. I wrote a note this morning on a little group I have on Facebook because I realized the mistake I made last Monday and I, what it is, it's receiving a thought and not following through on it. And I am learning that I need to trust these thoughts because I offer these divine quotes that I have on cards and I was leaving my home for hours that day, which is not typical. And the thought came in to take the box with me. And I didn't. And of course, a woman in Europe at two in the afternoon wanted a card. So I need to know that I am so close or, it's all how you view it. There are people that say that you are God joy. You are God, there are people that say you are close to everything you don't see, it's all how we view it, but I know that I need to trust those kinds of thoughts because they are accurately just right. Like I needed to take the box with me on that seven hour trip.

Russ Johns: [00:08:25] Yes. Yes. What's amazing to me  to think that there's... it reminds me of a book. Being an author, maybe you can relate to this, but Big Magic, where sometimes an idea or a thought comes into your head and if you don't follow through or take action on it or do something with it, it evaporates. It leaves you, the idea is out there. And if you don't take action, it's going to go somewhere else. And somebody else is going to do something with it. And that whole concept of sometimes we get the sense, we need to do something and we don't. And I suspect you had that experience when you, like you had mentioned, I was invisible. I wasn't who I needed to be. And when we're not confident, when we're lacking in some of the things we're supposed to be doing, that stuff leaves us all the time until we start listening to what we're able to do and expanding on those ideas. And it's just fascinating to me to think how much bigger we can become when we allow ourselves to listen to those thoughts and those dreams.

Joy Resor: [00:09:41] Yes, I know. And I had that thought because my books, I did not try to write them.  It was big magic. They arrived and I was in a receptive mode. I wrote one of the rhymes in my journal and then I felt, oh, I'm going to go to the computer. And I wrote another rhyme and another run and before I knew it, I had a book that's really touching lives. Wow. May I read you a rhyme?

Russ Johns: [00:10:11] Yeah, I was just going to say, we need to read, you need to read some passages designed to shine.

Joy Resor: [00:10:18] I could do this book? So from Russ Johns, it would be Rascals and Joy. And in the second volume it's Rest and Juggle.

Russ Johns: [00:10:31] Oh, let's Rest and Juggle today. I love it.

Joy Resor: [00:10:35] Oh, rest. Rest when you're tired, like after you've run. Rest after beach time ablaze in the sun. Rest beneath trees where birds tweet and nest, where cool air feels great, when you've run out of zest. Rest on the sofa with dogs fur to pet, the wag of his tail, tickling your chest. Or slip into bed to close tender eyes, for rest beneath covers until the sun rise.

Russ Johns: [00:11:18] Love it. Love it.

Joy Resor: [00:11:20] Which way... there's the illustrations.

Russ Johns: [00:11:22] I love it. I love the illustrations. Those are great illustrations.

Joy Resor: [00:11:28] Thank you. My illustrator is in her twenties and it was a divine appointment. I know her aunt and Lauren Connell has done a fabulous job with these books. Here's Juggle.

Russ Johns: [00:11:45] Oh, wow. How fun.

Joy Resor: [00:11:48] Thank you.

Russ Johns: [00:11:49] How fun. I want to say hi to a few people in the room here. We got Michael. Mike Baker. Good morning from Florida. It's within you life coaching of spiritual guidance and achievement. Probably make a great connection, Joy. Nick is here. Nick is here in the room from up North wonderful individual that's doing some great work out there. Nick love you, man. Hope you're doing well. We should connect soon.  It's been too long. And then also I want to give a shout out to Sheila Chamberlain. She's in the room. Sheila, thank you so much for being here. And she says it's within you. Absolutely. It is within all of us. And then Darren Burch, Badge Boys. Good morning, Russ and fellow pirates. Thank you so much for being here. Hope you're doing well. And then Sheila says divinity of purpose. Collaboration. Love to hear it. Thank you so much, Darren. Appreciate it. There's so many things and Mike Baker  making some comments here, simple reminders. I just want to thank everyone for being here because this is actually a perfect and appropriate subject for today because I have so much #gratitude for everybody in the community. And also, I have had to rest at times because this has been a marathon. This is over 400 episodes of the #PirateBroadcast™ and just continuing to interview #interestingpeople doing #interestingthings and it's just a gift and I just feel so blessed to have so many people in my life that are so wonderful and supportive. So I just want to take a moment and thank everyone of you to for being here and being in my life. And Joy, thank you so much for being a pirate as well. So author, you're going out there creating poetry you're a poet and you've had this expansive experience in your life of sitting down and writing these rhymes and creating books and everything else that goes along with it. What are some other things that you have on your roadmap or your thinking of planting seeds along the way for?

Joy Resor: [00:14:03] Thank you. May I first read you the rhyme Juggle ? And then I'll tell you.

Russ Johns: [00:14:08] Yes

Joy Resor: [00:14:09] Okay. When clowns toss blue balls up high in the air, they juggle with laughter, with smiles, with flair. You're not in the circus, your hair's not hot red, leave juggling to clowns, let's clean off your bed. Is your closet too full? Are your books on the floor? Does baseball or ballet feel like a chore? What's yours to release in a jungle of days when juggling too much leaves no time to play.

Russ Johns: [00:14:47] That's very deep, actually, a lot of messages.

Joy Resor: [00:14:52] Yes and this is why they're called read aloud rhymes for any size heart because I understood that these would speak to children, my books, but also to the adults, reading them to the children and it speaks to our inner child. So what I have coming up is pretty exciting.  I'm unbelievably excited about my future. I have a chapter that I wrote for a wonderful new book that's coming out in early June. That's called Whole-hearted Wonder Women, 50 plus. I think the subtitle is Courage, Creativity and Compassion at Any Age, I might have missed that, but I'm chapter eight in that book. And I have been invited to go to New York City with both of these books to be interviewed by Rocco Staino on Kid Lit TV and kid Lit TV, apparently is available to a very wide group of schools and libraries. Yeah. So we're going to travel to New York in June.

Russ Johns: [00:16:09] Congratulations.

Joy Resor: [00:16:10] Thank you.

Russ Johns: [00:16:11] That'd be fun.

Joy Resor: [00:16:12] Yeah. Yeah. And my older son who I haven't seen since his wedding in August of 2019 is coming to town in June also. So June's busting out all over really in my life.

Russ Johns: [00:16:29] That's fantastic. It's amazing to me to think that, and I'm always curious because there's so many people doing so many different things that we sell them take the time to slow down because we're juggling or juggling so many things, life and family and work and all the activities that we have going on that we don't always slow down and actually just relax with what we have around us and see things that we don't always need to see. And so we need to see things in a way that we can just absorb them and these poems and this poetry and this writing and this creativity that you've done is just so inspirational for so many people. So I just, I'm inspired. So I'll have to go create something I've been creating every day for years. And that's one of the practices that I do is just continue to create. It's not always amplified to that degree, but it's saves me from my own sanity.

Joy Resor: [00:17:36] Yes. We are designed as creators, Russ, and for you to allow creativity through you every day. That's fabulous. And whether it is something that you're sharing with another, or you're just exercising your creative muscles.  I sat in my room to write poetry when I was a kid. I was born on a rhyming birthdate and here I am. I have rhyming books that are blessing very many people. And I am so excited. I also have met some people that might do some rap songs to these rhymes. So we'll see what kind of rap videos come up in time.

Russ Johns: [00:18:25] That is fantastic because I don't know if you've met Devin James, but Devin James,  he does rhymes and he writes a lot. He's out of Portland, Oregon, and he and I did a couple of tracks because I've been creating music every day. I've been creating a track a day to see what I can learn. And when I say I track a day it's, I grew up as a musician and I'm still a musician. And so this process that I'm learning is I have constraints. I put some self constraints on this process, so I can actually learn about the process and some of the things that I'm doing. So I've been creating a track a day and he's taken some of those tracks. And then he has a hashtag flow therapy. And so he sings over the top or rhymes over the top of them. So it'd be great to get an artist in and take some of your poems and do that with. Collaborate on that. That would be fun.

Joy Resor: [00:19:25] So I'll have to look him up. Thank you.

Russ Johns: [00:19:29] We'll have to introduce you guys. So that would be a blast to be able to do that. And I'd love to  watch that unfold. So keep me posted on that.

Joy Resor: [00:19:38] Okay. I will. Oh, and yet there's, a lot of different things are happening. There's also that man, he's an actor who was the speedy delivery guy. Oh, I'm not supposed to talk about it.

Russ Johns: [00:19:52] Okay, we're pirates, though.

Joy Resor: [00:19:53] Oh, it'll be announced when it's announced. Okay. But I'm yeah, I'm unbelievably... and I will just, I want to name this, that when my ex, when he was my husband telling me the things he was telling me to end the marriage, I heard a voice inside me that said, take in this darkness, you need it. You are going to transmute it. And I stayed with the pain of that. I ate it. I did it come off the mountain for five days, but I knew and maybe we all know people who are 15 years out from something very traumatic, but they're still in it. And this is what I understand we are to enjoy our lives and we are not to hold on to anything. Allow things through, bring it through. Now that I'm grounded in my body and I'm not thinking negative thoughts, I'm just enjoying life so much.

Russ Johns: [00:21:14] I applaud you for that. And that's exactly what we need to do is is enjoy who we are and celebrate the things that we bring to the world, because I truly believe that everyone has a gift. Everyone has the ability and the opportunity to shine the light and do something amazing in their own life. And it may not necessarily be for the entire planet. However, in your own world, it's very important that you continue to pursue something that brings you joy. That brings you happiness. You can wake up and have gratitude for and know that it's up to you and you're responsible for your actions. You're responsible for taking those steps necessary to shine the light in your world. So that is fantastic. I love that. Sheila says I left mine and she says, let go. And a globe of light. Thank you so much. Wendy says the Admiral is always creating today. He created a new pirate, welcome Joy.

Joy Resor: [00:22:25] Thank you, Wendy.

Russ Johns: [00:22:28] You have a supportive community here and I just want to make sure that Mike Baker he says a messy bed is a sign of a messy head. The confusion of chaos we create within our mind. Absolutely. And like right now, I'm always, I'm a tinker. I tinker and I've been creating all these things that it's time to take a moment. Clear my desk off and clear my counters off here and put things away and clean up the workshop. So I'll have to consider that today as a sign. When's the next book released, remind us,

Joy Resor: [00:23:04] Oh, I think it's June 7th or eighth. It's the one I'm a co author in with. There are 22 women authors in that book. Whole Hearted Wonder Women 50 Plus. Yes. And we're all getting very excited for that book.

Russ Johns: [00:23:22] Fantastic. So how do you like people to reach out and connect with you? Joy?

Joy Resor: [00:23:28] However works for them. So if you want to send me a message through my website, joyonyourshoulders.com. If you want to send a message through my Facebook. Joy on your shoulders.

Russ Johns: [00:23:43] You're also on LinkedIn.

Joy Resor: [00:23:45] I'm on LinkedIn. I'm on YouTube. I mean you could GoogleJoy Resor, and I am not hiding anything.

Russ Johns: [00:23:54] And now that you're here, you have the opportunity to be a pirate too.

Joy Resor: [00:23:57] That's awesome. Yes, I'm happy to, and I'm certified in spiritual direction. So I call myself a spiritual mentor. Clients call me a joy bringer.

Russ Johns: [00:24:15] I love that. I love that.

Joy Resor: [00:24:16] Yeah. I do have an ability to, someone could tell me what's happening within their world and  I would be like any other person, but I can bring a different perspective to it, a different way to look at it. A different understanding and maybe some questions or to help clarify something for them. I really can serve clients well, and I'm also, I officiate weddings as an Alliance of Divine Love Minister.

Russ Johns: [00:24:48] Fantastic. I love that.

Joy Resor: [00:24:50] Thank you. Oh, and I would say so many people tell me that they love visiting my website, that it brings them joy.

Russ Johns: [00:24:59] Yeah, well, everyone go check it out. Love the fact that you're there. I love the fact that you're a pirate and in the community, and we're connected and we can have ongoing conversations about this because I think it's important subject that everybody understands that slow down, take a breath, discover what brings you joy and discover what brings a little bit of happiness in your world and what gift you're bringing to the world and allow that to expand and bring light to others because it's so important that we have something positive in our world in this chaotic, noisy space we're living in right now.

Joy Resor: [00:25:42] Oh yeah. May I, Oh, is there time for me to read... this rhyme is called Shine and it speaks to this. Today marks the start to shine as a light, which starts deep inside where peace makes it bright. What steps can you take to polish this shine? Poems, take walks, watch ants March in line. Your soul knows the path, your soul speaks within. It calls in the night, it loves to begin. To shine through your smile, to speak in your heart, allow your bright shine, today is that start.

Russ Johns: [00:26:31] I love it. I love it. Thank you so much Joy for being here and Everyone connect with Joy, bring her into the community, let her know that you're a pirate and just start the conversation. Cause we're only one conversation away from having an amazing adventure in our world. And Joy, thank you so much again for being here. Number 400. 400 episodes of the #PirateBroadcast™ now.
