Introduction: [00:00:00] Welcome to the #PirateBroadcast™, where we interview #interestingpeople doing #interestingthings. Where you can expand your connections, your community, #kindnessiscool and #smilesarefree. Let’s get this party started.

Russ Johns: [00:00:10] I love the pirate community. Thank you so much for being on the #PirateBroadcast and joining us. If you're joining us live. Thank you. All the #gratitude in the world. If you're joining us in the future on another occasion, on another channel, please and subscribe and continue to share this information with people that need to hear it. Because today we have a veteran pirate in the house and some amazing conversation is going to take place. So we invite you to join the conversation, comment on the conversation and ask your questions. We're open to answering questions. I'm not afraid to answer your questions. So Bill, how are you doing my friend?

Bill Bloom: [00:00:49] So well, life is a blessing. How are you, my friend?

Russ Johns: [00:00:53] I'm beyond blessed. I feel fortunate to be here and I have all of #gratitude in the world for this opportunity to talk with someone like yourself  because we are all going through so many amazing things right now, some challenging times, obviously, and I think it's really important for us to continue opening the dialogue and the discussion. And one of the things that I know that you're very versed in is how we're going to plan for our future, as it relates to our finances. Our planning and building strategy around that subject. And that's one of my weaknesses, I've never been one to... I've made money, I've lost money and gone through this process, but I think it's a process that we have to learn and continue to learn more about. And you're doing some amazing things. So tell us, and for those that may not know you yet, what your framework has been and where you're headed next, because you've got some exciting news to share today.

Bill Bloom: [00:01:56] Yeah. Thank you for that. I have all the empathy in the world for you with that Russ and probably the same for a lot of the viewers today and the people who are going to listen to this. When we grew up here in America, we're not educated on financial matters in any way, shape or form. I've talked to a lot of my clients and they say, yeah, it was educated on how to use a checkbook in high school. 30 years ago, I grew up in a household where my parents had no clue what to do with a dollar or two. They usually spent it up. Unfortunately my mom passed away in January and I went to my dad's house and I have a whole bin of like basketball and baseball and football jerseys that my parents bought me and some of them have some value now. I didn't know that back then, but parents were spending money on these jerseys that I didn't need. And I'm sure it was the same for a lot of people on these calls on your show today. It's just the problem we have is lack of financial education. So to take things a step further, one of the things that I'm working on right now is a completely automated financial platform. So if you have a millennial who came out of school with $50,000 of student loan debt, They want to have $25,000 in the savings and they want to have $500,000 in their investment account by X age, you choose it 45, 40, whatever that is. What we're going to do is reverse engineer everything for them and show them the steps to get them there through smart learning through technology, to actually allow them to make better financial decisions. So I think this is what's missing in the financial world. I think this is going to be a game changer.

Russ Johns: [00:03:44] I loved the idea and the concept, as a lifelong learner, I really enjoy learning new things. And if I had an opportunity to learn why and how and process, it's really encouraging to hear you say that because at any age, regardless of where you are in life, you can still learn and you could still improve your situation. It's not the end of the world and saying, oh I don't believe that you're too old to learn. So you have to continue to learn it, stay consistent in what you're doing and improving. And so this is an exciting opportunity to grow this educational piece of the financial puzzle as well.

Bill Bloom: [00:04:33] It is a financial puzzle and it's always a puzzle. And I think that's what makes it difficult, Russ. You don't know. Okay, my car is about to give out and I take it to the mechanic and the car's only worth $2,000 and it's $3,000 worth of repairs. So you go and ask your brother-in-law who says, oh, just go buy a new car. 0% financing for seven years or eight years or whatever it is, right. And your car payment will be $350 a month. And you might not have $350 a month, but your brother-in-law says, oh, it's 0%. It's okay. And it's probably not okay. You have to realize who's your financial coach and who are you taking advice from? Just because you have a Mercedes doesn't mean that you have money over extended. So having proper financial guidance is so incredibly important. And that's what I do on my day to day business. I'm working with people who are 50 and older and high level entrepreneurs to figure out their cash flow for them for the rest of their life.

Russ Johns: [00:05:40] Cash flow, I think is the key because regardless of where you are in your financial journey, like you said, you can appear to have a lot of money, but you may be actually overextended actually at any level. And so cashflow is key in business. Cashflow is King and being able to have those receivables on a consistent basis and make sure that things are moving forward and everything's in place. And a lot of people don't know that's one of the areas, like I said, that I continue to work to improve on. And I'm going to draft you like NASCAR conversation with you and say, Bill, what do I do next? What are some areas that you're going to embed in this new program or a solution,  I don't know how to describe it, platform. What are some things that you're going to have? Because mindset is another area of business that we need to get past because it's like, hey, I have money in the bank. I can go buy this while it's not necessarily like the car. You may not necessarily want to go buy that.

Bill Bloom: [00:06:40] And so I'm working on a completely collaborative basis on this. I could barely use my computer, so me creating something like that is impossible. So the framework we're going to keep it simple at first, where you're going to choose. Do you want help with saving your money because you're terrible at it? Like the majority of people, even including myself at times, like I'll admit it. I'm a financial advisor. No one's perfect with money. So we can take ourselves off that pedestal, be humans about things and realize we're not perfect. And that's okay. That's one of the things we have a stigma around and I want to take that away. It's okay to ask for help. It's okay to talk to people. And the problem in the financial world is what I've seen is you need to have money for someone to talk to you. You need to have a million dollars or half a million dollars or whatever arbitrary number that is per advisor.  I want to take that stigma away. So going back to the platform, it's going to be an app where you plug in your income and you say, I would like to have my debt paid off or my savings at X amount of dollars. And we're going to figure out that math for you. And then the next steps are we're going to help automate everything for you, so that it's done for you. So you don't have to think about that anymore. And then I'm going to collaborate with another gentleman who has probably a couple thousand videos made already. So put that piece in the puzzle, because he specializes in that, he is excellent at that. So if you want to look at a video about that car example, he has it. So you watch a three to five minute video on how to figure that out. That's self-education and then taking it one more step further is we're going to have courses where I'm collaborating with another gentleman who has an online spending course. So I'm not recreating things. I'm leveraging other people's unique abilities that they're great at to build this business, but doing it as a collaborative measure, because we want to be a hero to the person who doesn't have a million dollars, they don't know what to do with their money and that's who we're going to help and start this.

Russ Johns: [00:09:02] Yeah, or has lost their money. It needs to get back on track, right?

Bill Bloom: [00:09:08] Absolutely. The majority of people here in America are employees. And that's okay. Being an entrepreneur, being a business owner, as an employee, It's so hard. It's difficult. It's glamorized and it's not glamorous. There's oppression that comes with it. There's anxiety. There's a ton of stress that people don't realize. They just think, oh, you live in a nice house. You have nice stuff. That's not life, ladies and gentlemen, that's not how life works. It's about being happy. It's about being present and surrounding yourself with people who can help you. So yeah, that's who we want to be a hero to.

Russ Johns: [00:09:44] I love that Bill. And one of the things that I really enjoy is the idea that we have a community here in the pirate nation, and we have an opportunity to actually engage with some of these individuals and expand this message to them. And as you get closer to this this goal of releasing this platform and sharing this information, I want to have you back and continue to share this message over and over again. And one of the things that I know is important for business owners and entrepreneurs and employees is managing day to day. Making sure that things are taken care of every day. And then also, how do I protect my future investment? Or how do I grow an investment for the future? How do I grow and how do I make it simple that I don't have to think about it. And some of these techniques that you're talking about allow that to take place. For myself, it's sometimes I'm just, like you said, as a business owner, I'm focused on the day to day activities. And if I could do something that would simplify my life and not have to worry and not be concerned about what my money is doing or where it's going or where it's not going, I can just plug a few things in there. It would be really simple. It's exciting to think about. So what's the roadmap to get to that point for you?

Bill Bloom: [00:11:06] Thank you for asking. January is going to be a timeframe when we want to launch the app, because that's really when we start a new year fresh. You have new opportunities. Everyone sets their new year's resolution goals. They don't work because you're not consistent. You don't put a plan in place and this is going to change the lives of millions of people. This is going to give them a platform and an opportunity to help make better financial decisions. And the thing that really hurts us, it's those day-to-day spending habits that you can change. Your personality is not permanent. You don't need to do those things every single day. And it's the little things that hurt us. Oh, I want this t-shirt, you go online and it's here in two days. Cause you can just press little buttons on your phone and those are some of the habits we need to unlearn because yeah, it's convenient. But for all of you who are watching this right now and listening, ask yourself this before you press the purchase button, is this going to help me financially? Can I make money on this? Is this a short term thing that I don't need? Just start with those questions. Slow it down. Think to myself, do I need this pair of shoes? Do I need this shirt? Should I set a goal to accomplish before I purchase this instead? Should I save a thousand dollars before I buy a hundred dollar pair of shoes? Yeah, that's where the power comes into play, because we're going to create a storyboard for you for this app, so that you could put your trip to Paris or these expensive shoes or watch or whatever, but having a goal based in rewards based instead of impulse space.

Russ Johns: [00:12:59] I love that. With Amazon and instant gratification, it's really difficult to battle against that. However, you could almost game-ify your ideas and say, okay, before I get this reward, I have to go through this process. I'm going to book one more project, or  I'm going to close a deal or I'm going to clean the garage or something like that. Just something simple and keep your mind. Keep the activity as part of almost a game is the way I can see it taking place and maybe formulating a new way of thinking. I'm a minimalist in a lot of ways. I don't even own a car. I don't have a lot of clothes. My wardrobe is pretty minimal. It's pretty straight. The thing that catches me though, is gadgets and tech and software.  I like to learn new software and process this stuff. So I'm guilty as charged when it comes to oh, that's the only so much. And what I see right now in the software world is a lot of subscription-based things. So it was like, oh, it's only $49 a month. It's okay, here's your 49, 149, 99, whatever it happens to be. And all of a sudden, you look at your bank statement and say, holy cow, look what I'm spending money on every month. And so we were talking before the show about having your business make money for you versus going out and making money for your business. And so talk a little bit about that as it relates to buying things and having it make money for you. What does that mean for business owners or entrepreneurs or even employees? What can we think about through that?

Bill Bloom: [00:14:40] Oh boy. I could talk about this for hours because our most valuable asset is our time. And I've been a strategic coach for almost eight years now. Like I'm in the 10 times program with Dan Sullivan, who is world renowned as the best entrepreneurial coach in the world. So I'm blessed. I'm very lucky for that. It's a choice to invest in a program like that. And over the years I've learned that taking free days is one of the most valuable things that you can do.

Russ Johns: [00:15:12] What does that mean? Free days?

Bill Bloom: [00:15:15] Oh, free day is just as it sounds. You're free to do what you want. You don't check your work email for 24 hours. This is why you need a team. So you're not doing everything and you're re-energizing. So you can go play soccer. You can go sailing. You can go take your car out for a drive. Go for a run. Read that book that you've been thinking about doing. Take a master class on cooking or gardening or whatever you want to do. That's what our free day is. And spending time with your family or taking your kids out of school and having a day to just be with your family and your spouse or your significant other. Takes time off and you go do something, go do a spa day with your significant other.  My wife and I just did that on a Friday afternoon a few weeks ago. Those mental growth activities because the less you work, the more money you're going make. And we live in a society where overworking is celebrated and that's garbage, absolute garbage. Like people fantasize about and put Elon Musk on a pedestal because he works however much, he sleeps in his... abilities and it's not healthy. It's not good for your body. You are not like that person. There are anomalies where maybe that's what they're good at, but us as humans, you'll learn this at coach, you're only good at two to three things and that's it. What I'm good at is doing the planning for people to figure out ways to have their income last their lifetime off of their personal resources. I'm great at listening, just listening to what people want, and I create a plan for that. And I'm a futurist, so I am excellent at ideas. And that's why I'm great at planning. And that's why I enjoy planning is because I like to think about ideas in the future. Everything else in my business, I don't do. I have a team. They help with everything. I shouldn't be doing it, so free days help you gain more energy to help grow your business, but you need to grow your life first. And that's why you need time away from work.

Russ Johns: [00:17:36] Yeah. I love that. I love that. And I will have to practice learning more about that because right now it's I'm not very good at delegating and I'm improving. I do have a team and I will continue to grow that team. And I'm learning some of these techniques because I've always been the person. Okay, I'll just roll up my sleeves and get it done because I can get it done. I can get it done exactly the way I want it in the time I need and then knock it out. And that's the wrong philosophy to have, because if I delegate it, if I train somebody to do it,  I only needed to train them one time. And then they can do it over and over again.

Bill Bloom: [00:18:20] And and you need to ask yourself, Russ, all those things that you do, does it give you energy? Does it drain you or excite you? And if it excites you, that's great. But if it's like at the end of the day, you're like, man I'm tired. I'm doing way too much. I'm doing way too much.

Russ Johns: [00:18:38] Hey, I want to recognize a couple of people in here in the audience that are joining us in the pirate community. Michael Baker in from Florida. Good morning pirates. Hope all is well, love that you're here. And Lewis, good morning gentlemen from Los Angeles. Thank you so much. Michael says, yes, life is a process of learning. Elize is in here from South Africa. Elize I love that you're here every day. It's been so exciting to see you, love to connect with you and make sure that we understand what you're looking for so we can bring more of it. Happy Thursday #piratenation. And speaking of #piratenation,  if you type in hashtag #piratenation, I think Bill's going to be able to share a gift at the end, so type in hashtag #piratenation and let's let's do some giveaways today. So Sheila Chamberlain, thank you. Good morning from Memphis, Tennessee. Spiritual guidance counselor. Thank you so much for being here. Mike says buy what appreciates, not depreciates.

Bill Bloom: [00:19:45] Love that.

Russ Johns: [00:19:46] I like that. I like that. We need to get Michael on the show. Wendy says, good morning, pirates, wonderful to meet you, Bill. I hope you're having a great time. Wendy, with mom and dad in Seattle, it's always great to hang out. And Wendy says the team is infinitely better, Admiral. Pirates are the bomb. Don't you love the community Bill.

Bill Bloom: [00:20:09] That's amazing.

Russ Johns: [00:20:11] Cathi Spooner is in, great discussion. It's absolutely an important discussion and I need to hear it. So I know that I'm not alone. Jenny Gold says hi Russ and Bill. David S. Jones. Good morning. Thank you so much for being here. Elize thank you, Russ. #piratenation a couple of pirate nations in there. Just add hashtag #piratenation and and I know that Bill's going to be sharing some time later on today or in the future at some point in time with winter. So Bill, I want to make sure that we have an understanding of some key concepts that I know are important for anyone to recognize wherever they happen to be starting out. And you've been so great and so  to share some of these things. What are some basic day-to-day concepts that we can start thinking about to get our direction moving in a way that's going to be productive for our future. You got any short, quick tips before we wrap up today?

Bill Bloom: [00:21:13] I do. I would really recommend everyone here take out a sheet of paper and write down your goals. If you haven't done that, a lot of people don't do it, especially with how crazy our lives get with all the good, bad, and different things that we have to do. Figure out your goals, because that should be your North star to help navigate you through life. Number two, if you're having trouble with your money, start small. You don't need to save a hundred thousand dollars before you start making moves. Start now. Start with $50 and do something with it. Pay off that credit card. Invest, find someone to help you, or like we're going to help people automate this moving forward. So start small. Because everyone who's become something, they started somewhere. You have to start. And at the end of the day, take time away from what you do. Enjoy life. I can't tell you how much that has helped me grow as a human being as a family man, as a business owner. Because when I take time away, that's when all these like crazy fun ideas come into my head. Oh, I should start this completely automated financial company to be a hero to people who don't know what to do with their money.  Which is the majority of people. I want to take this across the world, into Canada, in New Mexico, my wife's from Argentina, so bring this to Argentina. This is going to be a universal thing. This is not just going to be in america. So I just want to be a hero to the people of the world.

Russ Johns: [00:22:47] That's fantastic. I love it. And I know that there are a lot of different things taking place in the financial world right now and a lot of it feels like it's completely outside our control. And what you do have control over is how you behave and what you spend your money on and how you save your money and where you go with it. That's an area that I continue to think about and grow and also growing my business and I know that building a team out and growing that. So anybody that's listening in, if you have any questions for Bill, you're part of the pirate community, Bill's part of the pirate community. Start a conversation. Get ahold of Bill and make sure that you have an opportunity to have a conversation with Bill and learn more about what you can do and how you can act and how you can behave and grow your business and everything else. Yeah, just pop it in Silverfox Talks. Hey, how are you doing? So you can add hashtag pirate nation in order to to win a prize today. Wi n a pirate gift, some pirate treasure. Yeah. That's what it is. Pirate treasure. So Bill let's let's talk about the here and now I know that you just moved, you got a lot of things going on. So what are you excited about these days? What are you excited about right now?

Bill Bloom: [00:24:06] I'm excited about our son. He's going to be turning two on Saturday and he's starting his soccer classes. So I'm so excited about that. I played soccer all my life. I played in college. I still follow it. I still play myself in a men's league here. That was before COVID, but that's starting to pick up again. So family time, I'm really excited to see our friends come over to our new house. We get to show that to them. I spend time with family. I love love being with my family. It's just so rewarding seeing our son do the ABCs, and one, two threes and English. And then he's learning Spanish too. It's truly a blessing.

Russ Johns: [00:24:42] I love that. Let me put this hashtag up. We're talking. Let me get this giveaway then. Pirate treasure giveaway type #piratenation in the chat. So you have that. Okay. Marcia says happy birthday to your little guy. What a fantastic age. So much magic in this world. I love that Marcia...Marcia should be on your show too. And tell us about your podcast because you got a podcast and I will commit to being on the podcast. So talk a little bit about that before we wrap up today,

Bill Bloom: [00:25:17] It's a must, you have to come on the show and the new podcast is going to be launched in July. It's called the Retire as you Desire podcast and that's going to be on Spotify, Apple, and please tune in. We're going to have amazing folks on the show, sharing stories about life and you'll get to hear more about him, cause I'm sure you all want to know more about him and the amazing gentlemen he is.
