Introduction: [00:00:00] Welcome to the #PirateBroadcast™, where we interview #interestingpeople doing #interestingthings. Where you can expand your connections, your community, #kindnessiscool and #smilesarefree. Let’s get this party started.

Russ Johns: [00:00:19] Once again I'm in a conversation with the pirate Jenny here and we just nearly forgot to start the show. So welcome. Jenny how are you doing today?

Jenny Gold: [00:00:31] I'm great, but you know what? I forgot to tell you. I don't have a pirate hat, but look, when I have

these, that's the closest I had. I couldn't get to the store to get one.

Russ Johns: [00:00:42] We have all kinds of shenanigans on the #PirateBroadcast™ , so thank you so much. And you have snow in your neck of the woods. You have some weather going on. There's a lot of people having challenges with the weather this week. And in Texas, I know friends that have had damage in their home water pipes breaking. It's just no power, no water. And it's unfortunate. Warm thoughts, good vibes and healthy feelings to everyone out there.

Jenny Gold: [00:01:14] So we're not complaining in Colorado because in Denver, we've got that much snow left. They said we should have at least seven inches by now.

Russ Johns: [00:01:27] I was talking to somebody in Utah and they were saying, we need the snow. We need the, we want the water. And the resorts and everything else that go along with that.

Jenny Gold: [00:01:38] Yeah, we do too. But yeah, we are thinking about Texas because how often do they get snow? Seriously? I just never.

Russ Johns: [00:01:48] Oh, what?  It's been 30 years or so I don't know how long it's been.

Jenny Gold: [00:01:52] Yeah, their infrastructure just can't handle it.

Russ Johns: [00:01:55] No, it's not designed for that kind of weather, but so I want to talk a little bit about what you're doing because you have like myself, you're one of these individuals that has a lot of interests, a lot of different activities that you had over the years. And I know that you've been in marketing, you've been in sales and real estate and things like that. But the thing that I'm really excited about and the fact that we were connected was that we know Howard, our good friend, Howard, over at ORL.  I love his products and I'm a huge fan and advocate for what he's doing and I just really appreciate all of the work. Yes. I love that. That breast spray is awesome.

Jenny Gold: [00:02:42] Breath spray. It helps with your mask breath, everyone. It really does. For hours or so. And it keeps your mouth perfect. Some point out pH balance. Shout out to you.

Russ Johns: [00:02:55] Yeah. Shout out, Howard. Thank you so much. Got to catch up again soon.

Hopefully he'll watch this and catch it up with it. And guess who else is in the house? Nancy? Lorrie  early for you. So thank you so much for being here. Yes. Arts out to Texas. Thank you so much, Elizabeth, Liz Lawless. You are awesome. Thank you so much for dropping by. Hi Russ Hedge had been crazy. Luckily we had power whole time. I'm glad to hear that. Love that Kate's here. Good morning Russ and Jenny. Thank you so much. There's so many things that are going on and you also had sent me a product from.

Jenny Gold: [00:03:43] Yes. For the men, they have whole band. So yes they do. I never get the camera. Sorry, everybody. But so homemade, they actually have a plethora of products but they did send a Russ everyone's don't as saying that Russ, his beard is quite. He has a sexy beard now, not that it wasn't before he had beard oil, Hansard oil by homemade. So homemade is amazing. I love them. I re-upped their products. So we have got that, but what do you have to go with that to smell like? Oh, I totally forgot. He had this.

Russ Johns: [00:04:27] I have this. Try to get it. There we go. Charleston, solid cologne, hemp extract. And this is so cool because...

Jenny Gold: [00:04:40] After he takes a shower, he can put this on his natural deodorant is amazing.

Russ Johns: [00:04:45] I have in the shower, I have one of these. I haven't opened it yet because I wanted to do the show first.

Jenny Gold: [00:04:51] He has a charcoal one, actually the charcoal. Yeah. And they have, they actually have charcoal deodorant also for men and women that you can just use the same mine. But these guys have probably seen these in whole foods and it's because homemade actually makes them for whole foods. So a lot of these things you will see from other companies like the beard oil, but they've white labeled their products. They have about 2000 companies that white label their products. So they'll smell the same. They all look the same, but they'll have different packaging.

Russ Johns: [00:05:28] I love that.

Jenny Gold: [00:05:29] Yeah. We're very excited. I'm very excited to repthem. It's a great company. Everything is organic. Everything you have hemp products and they have non-home products too. So you can go to homemade as  W H O L E M A D E.com. And you can see their products happy and not unhappy.

Russ Johns: [00:05:50] Happy and unhappy, people don't realize how much hemp was used in the early days of the U S and the industry. Rope, clothing, all kinds of products and services, because it's renewable, a lot of people, like bamboo is an amazing product that is renewable. It grows like grass because it's. Grass the same family. And, it gets a bad rap because of the association with, some other things in the industry. However, I think it's really time that we actually look at how we can actually expand some of these opportunities. So thanks for sharing that. And thank you so much for introducing me to these products jenny.

Jenny Gold: [00:06:36] You're welcome. I didn't introduce you to ORL.  Howard's products.

Russ Johns: [00:06:44] Did you connect with Howard after he was on the show or no.

Jenny Gold: [00:06:49] Howard actually was introduced to me through Jessica Arnett, who is part of she's a compliance officer for cannabidiol life. So I'm repping their company also, and I saw Howard's products. She was wrapping them or unveiling them on one of her podcasts and I said, wow, that's like the coolest products because everything really is in class. And he would never band. I was going to say, we could have a band today.  But it's great because his products they've spent millions of dollars on research and development and they know all the different. Products that are out there. Even the ones that say they're great for, to use and everything else. And and there's a lot of really dangerous products. And he found that when he was looking at toothpaste canisters or whatever, they said, do not let your kids on her. I think he said nine years old. So all these are called placing to draw and you're like, Are you serious?

Russ Johns: [00:07:52] Why would I need to call poison control with the toothpaste my child is using .

Jenny Gold: [00:07:57] Or the kids toothpaste. And I don't even know Howard, sorry if I said that correctly,  but I do know that's very important. I know the CBD and the non CBD mouthwash, you can actually swallow and it's not going to hurt you. They've really made these products. So people can use them.

Russ Johns: [00:08:14] They're extremely high quality products and I love them and use them every day. So thank you, Howard. I really appreciate you. If you're able to hear and listen, jump in and say, hi, I, repping a product. And this is the beauty of the #PirateBroadcast™  Jenny is that we get to experience so many different activities and different people doing different things. And I'm just fascinated and curious with these things. So when you rep a product, what you're doing is you're just helping that product move forward in and giving some exposure and use your connections and network to actually amplify that, that whole brand. Yeah. Yes. So you like to use, or is there a system that you walk us through the whole process, so people understand what that means?

Jenny Gold: [00:09:09] So what I usually do, another product was just brought to me. From my co-PI introduced me to Strava coffee and that's a CBD or a non CBD product for coffee. And look at this Howard's breast spray, actually house with. Coffee breath. I introduced those two because Michael P copies on here somewhere.

And so that was brought to me recently, also. So what happens with that is I get them on Jenny's Gold standard on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube. I interview them on camera so we can get their product out there. And usually like with Strava really quickly, I got them on my website for Jenny it's Jenny Gold J E N Y S G O L D.com and we got their product up there immediately, and I got their logo up immediately. Cause those sort the things to do to get just a logo up on social media and boom there you go. And I interviewed him within the week and. There you go. So I do that. I just keep it. That was right around the holidays. Actually, it was right after the holidays, but around Valentine's day. So that was easy. But what happened between black Friday and the end of the year, there were a lot of sales with all these companies. So I was trying to negotiate, not negotiate, but in my mind, negotiate okay, who do I put up next? Which ones do I put up? So you kinda just have to do that. Usually I put them all up on the same day, but on different feeds.

Russ Johns: [00:10:46] Yeah. How can I amplify the people that I endorse and support? It's really interesting for me because somebody that likes to promote everybody, all the pirates, I'm out here just highlighting and shining some light on what you're doing. And the reason we got connected, you got engaged, you'd been involved and all of a sudden you're on the show and we're amplifying some of the things that are out there and your product line. That's how it works. It's just, it's so simple. You don't have to make it complicated, just take products you like enjoy and use, and then find a way that you can actually help them out and also maybe help you out along the way. There's affiliate programs.

Jenny Gold: [00:11:29] I'm an affiliate for all these guys. Yeah. It's not

Russ Johns: [00:11:33] If somebody happens to purchase something along the way, and you are an affiliate, you could, you get a little commission for that little perk for that. And everybody's happy, everybody's happy. I get to talk on the show. I get to promote something.

Jenny Gold: [00:11:51] I feel bad cause I haven't really talked about about. Cannabidiol life very much because she's the one that introduced me to a lot of these companies and this bomb, the CBD bomb right now is the bomb. No, it is. I've had a lot of interest in that because I can't say it's going to help you cause we can't promise anything during those cold times, during these cold times right now people's arthritis, aches, and pains might be coming around. I'm not saying that's going to help people, but it might, but it may help you. So you just never know. And so I've got people contacting me about all sorts of tinctures. This helped me,  this helped me with whatever, because I've heard about CBD oil. So that's what I do. But what's happening now with my line of work is that I have an auto immune disease and I'm sure we're going to get into this with Russ in a minute, but  I've got quite a few now from Lyme disease. And so I'm transitioning a little bit more into helping people in health and wellness. So I have products that may help people. I have a lot of information on this from my past.

Russ Johns: [00:13:04] You're using these products is a, an experiment to help, identify some things that help yourself because there's a lot of things out there. And I want to get into that. However, I want to come back here too. Nancy says, wow, there's a whole line. Nice swag there. Darren Burch, thank you so much for dropping in. Russ. Good morning pirates. Thanks for the link too, by the way, in messenger, I'll go check the episode out and I loved the opportunity to follow up on that. Darleen good morning. Great to see both always. Awesome. And Hiett Ives out of Houston. Thank you so much for joining us. Hyatt are you doing okay in the weather? Do you have power? Obviously you have power because you're on the show today. However, it might be challenging Darleen I was just loving on Bamboo's sustainable. I actually, when I was doing a lot more, when I was in Seattle, I was doing a lot more audio work and I built a desk out of one inch solid bamboo and. I missed that desk. It's currently in Texas right now. So I didn't bring it with me to Texas or to Arizona love the beard soap products. Our constitution, Betsy Ross made our flag out of hemp. Come on. We'll have the association absolutely positively. Yes. Hey Kelly Stone. Kelly. Good morning Russ and Jenny thanks for you. Thanks to you, Russ, ORL is one of our current brand partners. Howard Kaufman is on our show last fall of the right place at the right time tuning in every day. Every thing he had to say, your show resonated with me and we spoke after the sober already today. Collaborating see this is how it works, everyone. We have opportunity. And then. Liz says love the #PirateBroadcast™  great to be a brand ambassador. Liz, you and I are brand ambassadors for Chris luck too. It's one of those things that we have an opportunity to share. Good morning. Russ Hedge Sheila Chamberlain is here. Thank you so much in Tennessee. Are you okay into the weather? I hope you're okay. I hope Tennessee's doing okay. And then Hiett, Ives says getting better, but still challenging water pressure is new challenge. Yes. All the broken pipes are going to be definitely a challenge. And my heart goes out to everybody in Houston and in Texas that are suffering. I was telling somebody the other day Jenny that when my oldest son was born, there, was an ice storm. We lived in Portland, we had a little 10 acre ranch outside of Portland and ice storms all the trees started breaking in the power line out and we were without power for over three weeks. And it was so hard. It was challenging. Yeah. Yeah. Like thank goodness for woodstove. Cause that's what say, yeah, Sarathy says hi pirates. Hi Russ and Jenny. Howard Kaufman. Oh, see, Howard Kaufman is in the room. Yeah. You're ears must be burning Howard. Cause we're here. We're here going about it. Oh, Sheila says eight inches of snow in Tennessee. Wow. That is not normal for Tennessee. I don't think. So shifting gears Jenny thank you so much for everybody being here. I love you. And I just want to make sure that people understand that the reason you went down this journey and the reason it's important for us to talk about is that you have an autoimmune disease, Lyme disease that creates some challenges in your world. And there's a lot of auto immune diseases that people have, and you're helping navigate through this medical landscape, so to speak and finding things that work for you so you can share it with other people is what I understand the #motivation to be. Can you talk a little bit about that?

Jenny Gold: [00:17:12] So I've gotten through Lyme for almost 40 years now. I always say 38, but all of a sudden I was like, Oh, it's 40. But it's been a long time and the doctors keep pushing it back further just because we keep thinking that. Figuring out other ways that I could have been exposed to a tick earlier than that early than when I was bit by the tick in Mexico. What happens with Lyme? Unfortunately, you're misdiagnosed quite a bit. So you go down that road, you go down that road. I don't even know how many doctors I've seen people say, Oh, I saw 20 doctors. I'm like I looked all over the country, trying to heal myself and it I've probably seen hundreds. Know I have actually, it costs hundreds of thousands of dollars that the health insurance companies come after you because they don't necessarily believe in it as a whole government thing too. We don't need to get into that. But yeah it's quite disturbing. And so the mental side of this is pretty tough too, because you're trying to. Pull it down, a job, a big job. And you're just like, Oh, you're working for all these corporations. Cause I used to work for large corporations and it's really hard to do that because you feel like you have to prove yourself all the time because you've done the work to the largest PR firm in the world. You've worked for these big corporations, fortune 500 to 5,110 companies and you go from job to job and you're thinking. I need to prove myself again. And here comes the imposter syndrome that we were talking about earlier. And then all of a sudden, you doubt yourself. So why do I doubt myself? I don't know. There's no reason for me to doubt myself because I've proven myself time and time again.  So now I'm really trying to help people in the auto excuse me, out of a mean world by bringing on. Hopefully have my own podcast sooner than later. So I've got doctors that have taught, said, they'll go on air with me. I've got people that have autoimmune diseases themselves. I've got a holistic healers. I have integrative health doctors that I'm seeing right now that's that they come on. So I have a plethora of people that know a lot about Lyme world dieticians. People that are exercise gurus, things like that they can actually help people with autoimmune disease because exercise is different for us. It's not, hey, go to the gym and deadlift 500 pounds, or I don't think a lot of people can do that anyway. But carry around 20 pound bags of groceries. So it's difficult. I have an controls in my car right now because I can't drive with my legs. So I can help people find out how they can get those and have the States possibly pay for them and things like that.  I'd like to help people, so I know how frustrating it's been for me.

Russ Johns: [00:20:17] It's not easy navigating some of the waters of insurance and, getting the help you need and actually finding an answer because I think with Lyme disease and I had a good friend when I was a firefighter, his wife had Lyme disease and it was really challenging because some days she just could not get out of bed. The exhaustion just takes over and she had three kids. So it was a big challenge for them. And I know that she was able to control it to a certain degree through certain practices. And I don't know everything that she did. However, it was really one of those things that you have to learn what works for your body. You have to learn what the triggers are. How to reduce that inflammation the things that exacerbate the problem, the symptoms that you have,  so what is it that seems to be the biggest challenge with auto-immune disease, that people are unable to find a solution for, or get past in the medical community.

Jenny Gold: [00:21:24] I think for me, for example, I'll just use me as an example. I get better. I get better. I'm not using any cane. I'm not using a Walker and I think, okay, I'm all better. I go right back to how I used to be. I want to be like everybody else. I want to be normal. If there is a normal Altera, right? I want to be normal. I want to go out to eat. I want to have a glass of wine or two or three. I just want to have dessert. I'm not supposed to have sugar. I'm not supposed to have a loon. But the doctors, a normal Western medicine doctors will not tell you that unless you break out in a rash or something and they run a whole bunch of tests on you, but honestly we shouldn't be doing, we shouldn't be eating those things if we have the autoimmune diseases. And I just want to go back to how I used to be, and I can't do that. And should I have been doing that 20 years ago? No, but do I want to be like everybody else? And. Party. And you want to be that, we want to go back to that and I can't necessarily do that. And I keep thinking that I can. Yeah. So that was my very long story on that. But I'm sure there are other people out there that understand that, but nobody's normal and just realize that nobody, every day is a different day for us and for everybody. And right now with COVID. I didn't want to say the C word, but with everything else, we really need to be careful do one of our mask, every what we have to now in Colorado, it seems but but unfortunately it's hard for me not to be around an mass, non masker, because maybe I can't pick it up. Maybe I can't, whatever your belief is on this. I don't know, but I used to go to huge events in the cannabis industry. Or like a thousand people there. Did you think about even getting the flu or getting shaking people's hands? Nobody thought about this before. And  anything even, the flu pneumonia, we just went out and did things anyway. It's hard for me right now. Because I'm a very social person and LinkedIn is great and getting on these lives is great, but it's still not... and zoom is great.

Russ Johns: [00:23:34] It's not the same.

Jenny Gold: [00:23:35] It's not the same. It's not the same. It's tough.

Russ Johns: [00:23:40] Jenny Darleen says wow go Jenny thanks for keeping this conversation alive. Absolutely. And Sarathy I did not realize this, but he has, I have epilepsy and have worked through.  But we have to be positive to survive with this comrade. Absolutely. We all have challenges and I was talking to Sarah Elkins, who's in Montana and about aches and pains in our body and how cause like when I fell and I had to deal with the medical community and I was on rehab and reconstruction for two years. Yeah. It was really challenging to understand how do I get the help I need, how do I get to it from the doctor's office? And how do I navigate everything that goes along with that? And then with yourself being disabled in a way that doesn't allow you to be, run out and run to the grocery store and pick them, things like that. It's really challenging.  Bring this awareness, talk about it. So talk about your podcast, the podcast, not podcast.

Jenny Gold: [00:24:50] Don't you love their name you guys? Because I'm going to start by I, this is what I do with my vendors right now, I take the monsoon and then I upload it. So that's what I start doing. And then I'll go live at some point here, but so I'm at the podcast, not podcast because we're live right now, which is great. I don't really know how to do that and that old, because I literally worked for the company that built one of the first websites for Vail a long time ago. There are three only three in Vail and. So that's how old I am. And I'm trying to learn this the new way. Yeah. So I appreciate Russ because he's helping me, he's guiding me and saying, okay, you can do this on your own. You have a phone. Is that what you said to me the other day? Do you have a phone? Then you can do it.

Russ Johns: [00:25:42] Yeah. Just pick up your phone and start. I'll show you how it's super simple.

Jenny Gold: [00:25:48] So that's my podcast not podcast. Yeah, that's what I'm calling it. But if anybody wants to get in touch with me please link in with me or through LinkedIn and send me messages saying that you saw. Russ this show today with me and cause everybody, everybody is like contacting me all the time about Jenny Gold senior creative, which wasn't I talked about this today and the other day. I'm not really running my marketing firm right now. I'm doing more of Jenny's Gold standard. So I'm not, I'm just transitioning.

Russ Johns: [00:26:19] You're just evolving.

Jenny Gold: [00:26:20] Just evolving. Yeah. And  If you guys need help with marketing and things like that. I still have a ton of contacts on the cannabis side. When I say cannabis, hemp and MJ, if you guys need help with that. And then also, I've worked for the largest real estate agents. They were the largest real estate agents in North America. I've worked on Nintendo before, like Russ. I worked with Starbucks on the Starbucks account when I was working for this big PR firm. I've worked on everything, Dow chemical. I worked on everything. So if you guys need help on any side of marketing, just let me know, but I really am focusing more now on autoimmune diseases.

Russ Johns: [00:27:02] Yeah, thanks for doing that. And thanks for making it real Jenny and thanks for coming on the show. I know that there's a lot of things that are challenging in, in your world and keep going. People need to hear your voice. They need to see that you're, regardless of the challenges that you're still in the game, you're still doing it every day and you're active in your attitude shines and thank you so much for being a pirate.

Jenny Gold: [00:27:29] Thank you. Oh, and then making LCS again. Someday I'll  get the pirate hat.

Russ Johns: [00:27:39] We'll get the pirate hat. I'll send you an eye patch. So thank you. Thank you everyone.
