Russ Johns: [00:00:10] Welcome. Welcome. Welcome to the #PirateBroadcast™. I'm excited. It's another episode and as always, we have someone that is doing something interesting and we're going to dive into it. And first, I just want to thank you for being here. Appreciate you appreciate all of the things that you're doing to support the pirate community. And also,  if you like comment and share and all the shenanigans that social media kind of demands of us, go out and do that. If you're not subscribed to YouTube, go there, I'm going to start working on the YouTube channel. It's slowly growing. I've got to put some energy into it and make it happen. But thank you so much for being here. If you're listening in the future. Thank you. And we have a repeat guest, a repeat pirate, someone in the community that's doing some great work. Tisha, how you doing?

Tisha Pelletier: [00:01:00] I am good. Happy Monday morning to you, Russ and everyone that's tuning in live.

Russ Johns: [00:01:06] I love that you're here and we can have a conversation I'm so excited about starting to open up and possibility of doing some live events. And I know that the last time I saw you, we were at this amazing event. I don't even know where it was, maybe Tempe or someplace down that way. And you had a great panel of speakers and some things going on. And now that we're we've gone through some of the last 18 months, so what's on the horizon for Tisha? And what you're doing? Talk to us a little bit about what what you're up to and where you're headed?

Tisha Pelletier: [00:01:44] Sure Russ. A lot of pivots in that 18 months that we had, I think that every single person tuning in or yeah, every single person has probably had some of those same aha moments and those pivots of okay...

Russ Johns: [00:01:58] New opportunities to explore.

Tisha Pelletier: [00:02:00] Absolutely. Absolutely. And the event that you spoke about is the event, social connect Phoenix that I created out here and sadly, I think that's an event that probably is saying, okay, we're going to put this on hold for a little bit longer because of circumstances. But one thing that I did in that timeframe also, Russ, if you remember, is I'm very big into helping support the local community. And it's twofold because I have kiddos. So yeah, I've got my one awesome mom mug going on today. And my son is in the national junior honor society. And before I couldn't find any opportunities. It's like when you can't find the opportunity, you create the opportunity. I couldn't find any service projects for him because he was still young at the time. And so it brought up this idea of why not start helping out, helping support the local community by going out in the community and being their volunteer staff and bringing the kids along and bringing other families and friends along. And so what became more business was now, hey, this is a family affair. Let's get out, let's do some good in the community and let's connect through communities. So that's something that I'm bringing back this fall and I'm excited about it because it's time. It's time. It's time to start helping support,  getting the kids involved.

Russ Johns: [00:03:14] When my boys were growing up we took animals to the retirement communities and allowed the people in the community to pet the animals and, enjoy. They even took llamas to the retirement community. Just a fun little thing, but it's really, I think it's really important that individuals, kids especially can see that side of humanity and enjoy the opportunity to see what the reaction is and see what happens in the community and then support the community and you've always been so good at supporting the community as well. So are there any projects that come to mind that are in the near term that we can help you support?

Tisha Pelletier: [00:03:53] Absolutely. Absolutely. So there is, yeah, so I'm a good friend of mine, Michelle Michelle, Maria is getting ready to host another one of her five Ks out in December 18th, I believe is the date with the Phoenix coyotes. So she is always looking for volunteers. So that's a 5k that's coming up. The other one that I was starting to work with, we had it created this whole Easter event and it was for. The centers for habilitation out in Tempe with Don Hawking. And we were going to be the staff that puts on this Easter egg hunt. This is a group home for adults with disabilities, and I was really excited. And then of course it got shut down with COVID. So we're planning on bringing that back in another organization is called, go with the flow. And they provide feminine products for for underserved communities. And so she's always looking for support, always looking for people to put those packs together. So there's just, there's some fun stuff brewing. There's some fun stuff coming up in the fall that I'm really ready to start putting out so that other people can jump on board and we can do it together. While we connect through the community. So that's the fun part. That's the fun part is cause you know what Russ, like we can talk about how do we create business and how do we network? And I'm like, why don't you network while you're doing something good for the community and you get to lead by example for your kids? And it has, you start the conversations, just having fun together. It doesn't have to be stuffy or salesy. It just has to be getting together.

Russ Johns: [00:05:21] Just a conversation about life can happen and it's just amazing. Sure. And the #PirateBroadcast, I don't know that you've ever been sold anything from the #PirateBroadcast™, but ultimately having relationships, I'm such an advocate for relationships and developing because if you don't really care for me, it's probably not a good idea to do business with me.

Tisha Pelletier: [00:05:51] I always say the same thing.

Russ Johns: [00:05:55] Alternatively, If I like you and I need your service, I would love to do business with you.

Tisha Pelletier: [00:06:00] Sure. And it speaks to this and I'll just share this. You asked me like what's going on in my world. Well, Russ, I don't know if I shared, I just got my real estate license this spring.

Russ Johns: [00:06:09] I saw that. Congratulations.

Tisha Pelletier: [00:06:09] Yeah. Thank you. It was a little bit of a twist and turn too, because in COVID, what I started doing, exploring the opportunities, is I started helping realtors and think about people, solopreneurs, who are in very saturated industries, like mortgage, like just being in business for yourself as a solo preneur. The one thing that you really have control over is your brand, your personal brand and how that shines and how you stand out. And so I started getting more people coming to me for personal brands and helping them be able to not only just give them a strategy, but also help them execute it by bringing in a team of people that I'm able to help build that brand from scratch. Because a lot of people come to me and they're like, I have no idea. I don't know how to figure this out. I don't know what to do. Oh, by the way, this is scary as all get out. So I'm happy to take their hand and walk them through it and really do it together. So when I got my real estate license, it's like you said, you're building a brand and people already see you. They love you. They respect you. So it doesn't matter, Russ, what you decide to do in this next adventure of yours, people will know that you already will give them that same level of service, that excellence, , so they're like, I'm happy to work with you. So when I got the real estate license and put that out there, I already had some people coming to me saying, of course I want to work with you. It doesn't matter if you're new at this, of course, because I know you, I like you. I trust you.

Russ Johns: [00:07:39] And I want to support Tisha. Absolutely. The reality is that we're all human and  a little side story is I offered somebody some assistance online. And they were struggling with creativity and so I gave him a bunch of ideas on how you could start creativity. You could start thinking about creativity and gave them some real examples. And they made a point of suggesting that it's like your YouTube channel isn't that active. It's It will be active when I put energy into it. And so we only have so much energy. And so when we have to focus in on something or we have to do something, we also have to think about every yes is multiple nos.

Tisha Pelletier: [00:08:26] Sure.

Russ Johns: [00:08:28] So how has real estate, cause real estate could be flexible and it can be exciting. My mother was a real estate broker. I grew up in commercial construction. So I know that whole industry in terms of some of the things that can be developed or the exciting parts of it, as well as the challenges. And  especially since you're branding,  you're two steps forward for most people starting out because you already have the branding experience, the ability to put yourself out there. You're comfortable getting on camera. And I think especially for real estate, you could actually create a show about the community you want to serve in real estate. Talk to builders, talk to business owners, give updates on the school. Talk about everything that goes on in the community and any updates and you can be a resource for people that are out there looking to move into the community and say what's the community about? You need to go see Tisha.

Tisha Pelletier: [00:09:24] That's so much what it's about. It's about being that resource and branding yourself as this is what I do. So as I shared, I got into real estate for a very different reason. You know how much I love what I do, right? So I'm not going to be likeI'm ditching everything and becoming a full-time realtor. Like I never had that intent. I got it for various reasons. And like you said, I was already working with realtors on building up their personal brand and I still am. And so when my clients who are realtors advised me and even the brokerage advised me, hey, you have a very good value add. That can help these realtors, which in real estate, there's a couple of different opportunities that people don't know. It's oh, I get into real estate and now I have to buy and sell homes. No, you don't have to do any of that. In fact, what you can be doing is being a referral source. So Russ, if you came to me and I said, sorry, I don't sell homes in Washington, but I know someone that does, now I'm able to grab commission from that or get commission from that. The other thing is because I have such a mentor heart, like I love mentoring so much. I do it day in and day out that I'm helping to make these other realtors successful. Which then helps to make me successful too. It's always about investing in other people's success. So that to me is like the ultimate icing on the cake is if I help you be successful, I'm also successful because of helping you build your real estate business. So that was really the area that I was wanting to get more into.

Russ Johns: [00:10:56] Yeah. And it's really you could branch out because you could teach classes.

Tisha Pelletier: [00:11:00] Oh I already am.

Russ Johns: [00:11:01] Yeah, you could teach classes on branding and communications and different methods of reaching out and sure it's just  exciting. I see opportunity everywhere I look, it seems. And it's just really exciting to be here and engaged in the community. And I know that  you're a mentor and you've supported so many individuals out there and I just want to support you as well. Hope you're well, man, let's catch up soon. Good morning, Russ Johns, Tisha, all the pirate broadcast peeps, the pirate crew. Micheal Baker. You get what you want out of life, helping others get what they want in life. Absolutely. Michael? Yeah, Phil's here. Good morning, Phil. How are you doing? We cannot advise others to do anything for themselves that we are not  willing to do for ourselves.

Tisha Pelletier: [00:12:38] Very true. ,Michael, so I always say that I am the product of my own product. So if I haven't gone through it, there's no way I'm going to tell you how to go through it, if I haven't been through it myself.

Russ Johns: [00:12:49] That's great advice. Great advice. And that's one of the challenges of being online and in setting the example. Cause there's a lot of people that are sharing a lot of different advice and there's no shortage of information out there.  And sometimes our circumstance, something that might work for me because of my personality and my just the way I operate and think may not work for you and vice versa. So we need to be cautious about, okay, what do we stand for? What do we want to put out there in the world? This is an exciting time. So you've got kids going to school, you got schedules to adjust. You got real estate, you've got classes.  Anything else that you've added to your plate?

Tisha Pelletier: [00:13:32] Yeah.  I'm always adding something to my plate, my goodness. Yes. Mentoring and speaking are always, my two loves, like I love getting on stages and I'm finally starting to be able to do that again, because things are opening back up. So I have some speaking gigs booked and I'm teaching a lot more classes, as I said. I'm always about creating my own opportunities. So if it's not there, let me figure out how to do it and start collaborating with the right types of connections to do it, to make it happen. Which leads me to a masterclass that I'm  getting ready to teach next month on the 13th, seismic mistakes people are making in their personal brand. So I'm going to be doing that. And then September rolls out my birthday month and I'm always big into doing something bold, always on my birthday month. So I'm getting ready to launch the make it happen hub, which is a community and membership opportunity for people who are like, I like you, I need mentoring. I need support. I need people to just hear me out. And, this just from earlier on that I am so big into community. So big into creating community. I feel like nobody should be doing this life alone. We all need people. We all need people to move us forward and push us out of our comfort. And I'm like, I would happily be that person for you. Yeah. So that's getting ready to kick off in September. So I'm just putting some finishing touches on getting it going.  Excited about being able to just keep helping people become successful.

Russ Johns: [00:14:58] I think we have a small posse of individuals here in Phoenix, too, that are looking forward to maybe creating a LinkedIn local pop-up something along those lines. I know Kenyatta she's been incredibly busy. She's just launched a program. She has a Saturday radio station program going on with a Safier and the crew over there. I forget what it's called. Maybe you could drop it in Kenyatta and mention that, but there's so many things that are going to be opening up. And I think people have this pent up energy of the opportunities that, to get out and hang out with some individuals and just meet and greet and get face to face again. And I know we have to be cautious and it's who knows what the future is going to unfold, but I really I'm looking forward to a meet and greet and connecting with others. And so it's really amazing to me to think that, full transparency, 2020 wasn't the worst year of my life.  Even though all of the things that went on and I don't want to diminish anything that anybody went through, for myself and my business,  it was productive. I was focused and I continue to be focused on the #PirateSyndicate and the#PirateBroadcast™. I'm coming up on 500 episodes in September, and I'm probably going to do a reset. I'll have to have a chat with you about branding and bounce some ideas off you.

Tisha Pelletier: [00:16:22] Yeah, of course.

Russ Johns: [00:16:23] It'd be nice to do that. Marcia says, wasn't the rain and cool temperature, such a lovely resting space during the hot summer. Yes. The rain. Did you get the rain yesterday?

Tisha Pelletier: [00:16:35] We did. We've actually had it since Friday and honestly, Marcia, I've taken full advantage. Like one of the posts I put up on Saturday was just rain dropping in my pool and I was like, this is heaven. This is heaven. I just sat on the patio and read my book and had my daughter come out and read her book to me. Like it was like any chance to just be outside this weekend was so good. So good. No heat.

Russ Johns: [00:17:00] It was nice.HIett says, late arrival, good morning, pirates. Wendy says, good morning pirates, what a wonderful voice you have for make it happen to show. Welcome to the pirate ship. We love our Admiral.

Tisha Pelletier: [00:17:15] Thank you, Wendy.

Russ Johns: [00:17:17] I see a huge, super groover energy cell between you two and the screen is always awesome. Thank you so much, Luis.  I really enjoy Tisha and all of the things that she does and anything I could do to support you, I'd be more than happy to do.

Tisha Pelletier: [00:17:34] Thank you. You were saying that 2020 wasn't, the worst year for you. 2020, wasn't the worst year for me either. In fact, I put a post up on LinkedIn. It's under my featured profile posts and it really shares the story of how in 2017, Russ, I don't know if you saw this post, but I was like, I'm ready to give up. I'm ready to throw in the entrepreneurial towel because I can't do this anymore. And it was I shared just a very personal, quick story about how I had business fraud and it just rocked me upside down, rocked my world, stole my confidence. My relationships went south. Like I really struggled to find me again. And it took every ounce of me to get back in the game. And what really saved me was a speaking gig. I was asked to get on stage. It was  an event called soar, success over all resistance. And I was like, if there's anything I've learned it's to take those bad experiences and to bring them to the surface because you're better equipped to deal with it. And for me it was like, all right, let's talk about this publicly, which was the hardest thing I had to do, the hardest thing to bring it back to the surface and share that I had gone through this experience and the learned lessons.  But it was really the one thing that brought me back. Because then when you see community coming back to you, saying I've been there too, and we're not alone. And you just, you start to feel that community come back and you're like, all right, slowly I'm going to take the next step. Slowly, I'm going to get back up. And so I did. I started to get back up and the speech I give is actually one of my keynotes on embracing failure and rising from the fall. So I had to go through that experience to get back up.

Russ Johns: [00:19:15] Yeah.  It has a lot to do with relationships too, because if you're closed off because of a pain or a hurt or some circumstance,  you're on the opposite side, you're not open to opportunities. So you have to understand. And I like  the stoic philosophy and some of the things it's just an experience. It's an experience that we have. We either learn, we grow or we succeed. And so those experiences teach us a lesson and sometimes we need those lessons to be humble or to be  made aware of, and some of the things that we need to understand to be stronger for the future. And sometimes if we frame it in that direction, rather than becoming a victim of it, I think it's so much more powerful for our lives.

Tisha Pelletier: [00:20:10] Sure. I've never gone through these experiences, good, bad and said, I didn't learn anything. There's always something that you're going to learn from it. And for me, it's that saying, there's always a silver lining. Think back to reflect on what you learned and bring it back and then teach the next person. You went through it, so teach the next person, help somebody else through the story and the pain that you went through. And that's what I did. And I told you it's actually what got me more involved in getting on the speaker circuit and saying, all right, I can do this more. And slowly I started to see confidence start to build back up, and this ability to, I can do this. I can really do this, Russ. Like I don't have to stay down because of this. I just keep rising because of it.

Russ Johns: [00:20:54] Yeah, it's just a stepping stone to the next level. Sure. Yeah. Wendy says the words we speak have power. Once we are able to talk about it without crumbling, we are healed enough to move on with our life. Phil says entrepreneurial skills keep rising above. Absolutely. And Martin says, Tisha story has really resonated with me. Appreciate this so much. So even now on the show, this message is resonating with people. Sometimes we learn that we can survive the suck.

Tisha Pelletier: [00:21:33] And you know what, there's a lot of cycles of suck.

Russ Johns: [00:21:39] Amen, Tisha.  I could talk about this all day and there's a lot of things that do not necessarily feel good when you're going through them and they always seem to be okay after you look back and say I survived it. I used it to my advantage and I was able to thrive.

Tisha Pelletier: [00:21:58] Exactly.

Russ Johns: [00:21:59] Yeah. I wanna ask you, as you're going through this transition and real estate and teaching and mentoring and speaking is there any events that resonate really well with you that we can start looking out for and maybe introducing you to in the pirate community?

Tisha Pelletier: [00:22:11] I think that opportunities to get up and share a message or speak are always open. I'm always open to that. But yeah, as networking starts to come back up, definitely just getting more involved. I'm trying to get back out there and start connecting with more local peeps, too.   Yeah. I'll have to think about that Russ of some other things, but yeah, if you hear of any opportunities where I know when you've shared that with me, you shared , a couple of networking events are coming back and I just need  to just start scheduling my calendar around my kids.

Russ Johns: [00:22:43] Around your kids. I think we have a speaking gig coming up this week, too, don't we?

Tisha Pelletier: [00:22:48] Yeah.

Russ Johns: [00:22:49] You got a show, talk about your show. 

Tisha Pelletier: [00:22:51] Do you remember how I was just saying that every September I try to do something bold? So I'm going on a year of hosting Tisha talks live and that's on Wednesdays and it's really easy to remember. #PirateBroadcast is very memorable. Mine is Tisha talks live at 4 45, soI got the rhym ing thing going on. And that time just works for me Russ because I've got kids and that's the time that I can get this in. And it's a very short 15 to 20 minute live interview. Where I bring in a guest on, and the guest for this Wednesday is Russ Johns because, hey, it's a reciprocal thing. And I'm excited to talk to everybody and you about live streaming and  then on Fridays I think we've had you on as well with Nate and I to casual convo Friday. Luis is a big loyal supporter. He tunes in all the time and that's Fridays at 10:30 AM Pacific. So it's good time for us to get to know the community and expand our connections and learn from some awesome people.

Russ Johns: [00:23:49] It's always great to hang out with Tisha.

Tisha Pelletier: [00:23:52] Oh, thanks. Likewise, likewise friend. This is easy conversation Russ. This is what I like. When it's forced or imagine if I was just giving you one word answers, you'd be like,  oh my gosh. So much time to fill. Could you please expand?

Russ Johns: [00:24:12] Is that a yes or a hell yes?

Tisha Pelletier: [00:24:14] I know and trust me, we've had guests before where were like, this is going to be a long 30 minutes. And that's okay. We'll wing it. We'll figure it out.

Russ Johns: [00:24:22] There's so many people that say, wow, that 30 minutes went really fast.

Tisha Pelletier: [00:24:26] Look at this. We're almost at 30 minutes.

Russ Johns: [00:24:28] Yeah. Thank you.  So how do you enjoy people connecting with you?

Tisha Pelletier: [00:24:33] Sure. I always say connect with me on LinkedIn. It's where I find I spend the most time on any platform for social media. And yeah, talk to me about maybe what you're struggling with. I'd love to be able to support you in any way and point you in the right direction.

Tisha Pelletier: [00:25:52] Yeah. So I'm going to give you a little sneak peek. I'm going to post this a little bit later, but I'm currently reading the book Hustle and it says in there, sticking to my head about the more risks you take, the less risks you have. So think about that. If you're going to keep going to bat and keep swinging at that bat, you're going to be opening up so many more opportunities than if you just sit behind and you're in your comfort zone, to go out there and start swinging, see what happens.
