Introduction: [00:00:00] wWelcome to the #PirateBroadcast™, where we interview #interestingpeople doing #interestingthings. Where you can expand your connections, your community, #kindnessiscool and #smilesarefree. Let’s get this party started.

Russ Johns: [00:00:10] And we got a wild one today because I got Reggie Waterman in the room. Pirate Reggie, welcome to the #PirateBroadcast™. Yes. And we're sailing away. In fact, I am in sunny, Phoenix, Arizona here today. I had an early morning appointment that I had to negotiate schedules with. So rather than adjust everything, I decided I'll just go mobile and bring the show to Phoenix today. So it's an adventure. I'm always on the pirate ship and I just wanted to welcome everybody. Thank you so much for being here and look forward to another adventure today. And Reggie, I know that you got a few things going on and you have actually a couple of livestream seasons. You're doing season three now or season four?

Reggie Waterman: [00:00:58] Season four is going to start in September.

Russ Johns: [00:01:01] Season four is going to start in September. We were just talking about it before the show. So I want you to share what it is and what the intent is that you're bringing to the table here. Cause I love the show. I love the idea and I wanted you to explain it and expand on it a little bit.

Reggie Waterman: [00:01:18] Yeah, no, thanks, Russ.. So the idea and concept behind it is about self discovery. So the title of the show is called Discovery of Yourself, where I bring on a variety of different guests week over week and we talk about their daily life struggles. At the end of the day, we all struggle through life. And I wanted put that on blast because we always talk about all the good stuff that's happening in our lives, but let's really talk about some of the challenging stuff. The stuff that we want to move away from, but really getting to the crux to understand okay I went through this challenge, but how did I overcome it? How did I step into my greatness? What did it do for me? How did it change me? And to let people know that if they are dealing with something, cause we all are, that they're not alone at the end of the day. So season four, we're gonna be talking about healing. Healing is important in order to take all the bad stuff, remove it from our past programming, our mental state. And then once we take that out of our system, then we can receive all the good vibrations and move forward with purpose and intent,

Russ Johns: [00:02:22] Healing is an important and a critical part of life. And I always recently, not always, anytime I've gone through some trauma or some sort of a challenging moment in my life, which there have been many, is this letting go of stuff. Releasing and letting go. And that's always been healing for me. And sometimes it takes journaling. Sometimes it takes a road trip. Sometimes I have to go camping and just unplug and unleash my nature into nature. And there's all kinds of different ways of healing. Are there any suggestions or recommendations you're bringing to the table or talking about in this process?

Reggie Waterman: [00:03:05] Yeah I'm going to be talking about my own healing journey in terms of what I went through. When I quote unquote, hit rock bottom personally, but then I'm also going to be bringing on guests to share their methods. One method that I'll talk about is, looking at areas of my life, where I may have hurt somebody or another group of people may have hurt me. But writing down that list of, who hurt me, who I hurt and then writing those names down, saying a prayer over them because at the end of day, to be able to bless these people the healing comes from within and as soon as I relinquish it and even throw that piece of paper away, I've now opened myself up to receive goodness. I think there's a lot of blockages if we don't take care and heal ourselves. And we tend to miss out on a lot of opportunities.

Russ Johns: [00:03:55] It's really interesting that you say that because I went through a period where I had to release some things and it was really, I was almost stuck and I had a phone call. Somebody called me up out of the blue. And I don't know if you're familiar with Dr Joe Batali. He was in The Secret. I actually wrote a book with him and he talks about Ho’oponopono and it's a process of releasing things. And so I just had this conversation with somebody and we went through this process, very simple, just nonchalant kind of activity. And all of a sudden everything shifted in my world. And everything was like, okay, for that particular piece of my life. So I want to remind people that it's not always complicated. It doesn't have to be complicated. It doesn't have to be this complex, big thing.   It's not like other times where I took a year off and went camping and became homeless for a year to shift my whole focus. And it was really satisfying.

Reggie Waterman: [00:05:06] It is. It is. And even I'm just addressing some people in your chat here, which we'll come back to what you just said. It's okay. Like good morning. One day. Good morning. Good morning, David,  Jenny. Wendy said something amazing to pirates. Don't travel with baggage. And we don't need to pack. So that baggage is all the past hurts we've got. Like you said, the word, the keyword is about releasing, right? So once you release that baggage, then you're just being able to open yourself up more. And I've done some stuff where I sent out emails to people I may have heard in the past. And that was just an email. And I wasn't expecting a response. It was more for me just to release that. If they responded great, if they didn't great as well. I was able just to release it and be able to move on and move forward. And I think that's key for everybody. And the thing is I find that a lot of us don't talk about this subject enough and realize the power behind just the healing process.

Russ Johns: [00:06:03] You're absolutely right, Reggie. You're absolutely right.  I think we need to talk about it. I think we need to be able to address it and show examples of how we've been able to get through it and grow through it. And it's really important for us to really manifest this new self. Who else can we become out of this experience? Because I'm a different person than I was five years ago. I'm a different person than I was a year ago. And as we evolve, we have to recognize that we can evolve. We need to evolve. And so what exposure have you had to these experiences that allowed you to see things from a different perspective?

Reggie Waterman: [00:06:45] Life.  In terms of the word that I use, life. Life will teach you so many lessons. We live it every single day, but it's not until your back is up against the wall. And then you have an awakening of some sort where you need to surrender and be able to let go. And if you don't, then you'll just be in this whirlwind of misery. You go through that constant hamster wheel and you won't be able to get off. So life has taught me when I was flat on my face, suffered some hardships, like we all do in life because there's ebbs and flows to this. There's good days, there's bad days and there's horrible days, but there's awesome days, too. But I want to maintain that. And what I say is just that high vibrational state, where I am creating my own reality, but I was able to now hone in on that only because I've done the work and people are like what does the work look like? It's the daily affirmations. It's the morning routines. It's the meditation. It's surrounding yourself with positive people, right? It's reading, stretching yourself and stepping out of your comfort zone. Right now, like two, three years ago, Russ again, I always say this to everybody. I wouldn't be having this conversation with you?

Russ Johns: [00:08:00] You wouldn't. You're a different person now today than you were yesterday,

Reggie Waterman: [00:08:03] Only a little bit, maybe a little bit, but like you said, it's like we always have to constantly reinvent ourselves and that's part and parcel of this healing journey, too. You think about the phones that we use? Think about Apple. Imagine Apple never updated their phones every year. We'd still be on the original Apple and there wouldn't be any upgrades. There wouldn't be any nuances. There wouldn't be any evolution, no innovation, no, all these good things that could come to the table and we could bring to the light if we don't evolve and reinvent ourselves, I don't want to have just a stale life.  I don't want to just be the same. I want to be different.

Russ Johns: [00:08:36] Yeah. It's really difficult to see how it could be when you're stuck in a dark place. And that's why it's so important for us to talk about it because sometimes when we're in our own vacuum, we really have this idea that we're unable to move forward. And that's why it's important for people to reach out, have conversations, see a new perspective. And, I've learned a lot from watching your shows and experiencing some of the challenges that I've heard discussed on your program. And so it's really important for people to understand it. You don't have to stay stuck. You don't have to stay where you are. You can change. You are not your thoughts. You have the ability and the opportunity to move forward. So just remember that there are people out there that care that will listen and do support you.

Reggie Waterman: [00:09:26] Yeah. And look at look at your community that supports you. Look at the Wendys of the world, the Jenny Golds of the world, the Kells of the world, my boo, what's going on boo bear. But these people you can definitely reach out to, and they'll be there to support you. You can lean on them for some positive affirmations, if you require it or just perspective. We all need perspective. And I think that's important.

Russ Johns: [00:09:48] Yeah, Marcia's in Denver, watching from Denver at #piratenation, I'm in the car today, so I probably won't do the giveaway.

Reggie Waterman: [00:09:56] You can still give something away. Maybe you want to give away your car. That might be a first.

Russ Johns: [00:10:01] It would be a long walk home though.

Reggie Waterman: [00:10:03] I stole that from Oprah, but she inspires me.

Russ Johns: [00:10:06] You get a car, you get a car, you get a car.

Reggie Waterman: [00:10:10] Like that. This is my car. I need this car.

Russ Johns: [00:10:13] Actually, this is my sister's car. I'm giving a car away. I don't need a car anymore. Or you can give it away. That's fine. I can give it away. I did give it away, actually. I just really appreciate the fact... and for anyone that's on the program, just put yes or no. If you've ever had a challenge in your life that you've been able to work your way through it and you survived it. If you're here and you survived it, say yes,

Reggie Waterman: [00:10:40] And if you say no,  you're lying. And if you don't say anything, you're lying, too. You should say yes. Can you give away Reggie? Listen, Raquel. She's a giver.  Shout out to her. She actually launched on aRaq Vision yesterday.

Russ Johns: [00:10:55] Yeah, congrats!

Reggie Waterman: [00:10:56] So congrats on that.

Russ Johns: [00:10:58] She was on last week. Wendy says, I want to invite you both for pizza and more in Minnesota. Winter pizza in Minnesota. Here we go. Elize. Yes. Yes. Jenny Gold. Yes. Raquel, you can only give away Reggie.  It's funny, Reggie, we haven't known each other for a long time. However, I've grown to appreciate the things that you're doing. You're running, you're out there, you're doing some things, you're posting, you're staying in contact. You're a busy individual. You have a family and you have life, everything that goes along with it, and you're still doing the live stream for the show. So what's the motivation before that. And what have you discovered along the first three episodes?

Reggie Waterman: [00:11:42] I've discovered a whole lot. No pun on discover. Cause that's the name of the show, but   it was a calling. And I know like people have heard people say, oh, it was a calling or was it really a calling? But it truly was. I still remember it like it was yesterday. It wasn't that long ago. Like last year March, walking down the steps and going through my morning routines. And I just heard this whisper. It was connect with the people. And I didn't know what that meant at that time, but I tried, I figured it out. It was like, okay people are going through the struggle right now, which is a pandemic. I don't want to make them feel alone. And I want to build a community. I just didn't know how to go about it. And also I usually get so fixated on the how, and when we get fixated on the how, we kind of trip over our feet, but I just surrendered to it. And I just said, okay, I'll just take little steps. Yeah. One step at a time. And what I did was I just created a, an event page on event, bright, and I sent out a few notes to people in their DMS on LinkedIn saying, I'm doing this thing. I don't know what it's going to look like. This is going to be on zoom. We're just going to have a discussion. And I just created a member of PowerPoints and I'm just like, okay. I just told my story about the struggles that I went through in 2019 and I remember 27 people showed up on the first zoom call. And then I went through more episodes and then at one time there were 70 people on the zoom call. I was like, okay, there's something here. There's a community here. And people want to have these types of conversations about life struggles, how to reinvent themselves, personal branding. And again, I would have guests come on, too. It wasn't until I started diving deeper into LinkedIn and building more connections and then I met somebody by the name of Edie Clark. And she goes, you should be able to branch out more from zoom and cascade your message broadcasted using LinkedIn live. And I'm like how do I get that? So there's always these questions about how, but when you go down the path and listen to that voice, whether it is you believe in God,  the source universe, pathways just start to open up. And that pathway, in terms of expanding the audience, was the form of Edie Clark which then translated into me meeting Marcelo, because she said to reach out to Marcelo. He's got  the live, he could probably give you the link. He gave me the link. I applied for it. Lo and behold, they accepted me and that 70 people at the max on zoom translated into over a thousand people viewing the content for Discovery or their Selves. So it's just wow, that was cool. So to sum that all up, what did I learn is listen, trust and believe in yourself, believe in the fact that you have what it takes to service other people. And when you start to service other people, doors start to open, you'll get to expand your network, which then gives you additional resources to help build. Because everything that we do as a community, we're putting the foundation and building blocks in place to do something great together. And if you don't ask, you don't receive. And a lot of times, as we all get hung up of on the fact that I don't want to bother this person for asking for help. Part of it is maybe you're just scared of rejection that person may not help you. But the other part is if you ask for help, great things can actually happen, too.

Russ Johns: [00:15:25] Yeah. What's the worst thing that can happen? Somebody says no or not now.

Reggie Waterman: [00:15:31] And then that not now  turns into a some day and then when that some day happens because of divine timing, it's just even more magical.

Russ Johns: [00:15:39] How many times have you added value and this is what we talked about all last week is when we're adding value to the world, people show up that you don't expect. And it's just like the community here, Jenny Gold, she just says, hey I met Reggie because he was on your show in December. Jenny's there and oh snap, Reggie and Russ, good morning, Wendy, Marcia and Hiett.

Reggie Waterman: [00:16:03] He's another one. I asked for his help for a particular project and he was gracious enough to help me. So thanks.

Russ Johns: [00:16:11] And we still need to have a conversation and connect at some point in time.  Wendy, she's been instrumental in a lot of conversations, a lot of introductions to different people in both directions.

Reggie Waterman: [00:16:23] She is a magical creature.

Russ Johns: [00:16:27] Yes. Yes.

Reggie Waterman: [00:16:28] She is a human being, but I say creature because she's just something special. Like she's a connector. She's got a good heart. I can listen to her, like her words. She's a wordsmith.

Russ Johns: [00:16:38] Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. And Jordan is an avid fan. He's been such a great supporter. He's always there. And Michael Baker from Florida. Absolutely. Thank you, Michael, for being here. So many amazing people, Reggie, that have just appeared. And it's just there is support out there and it just proves that taking action, asking questions, asking for assistance, going on the journey and saying, what is possible? What can we create? And that's a great example.

Reggie Waterman: [00:17:16] It's funny about that. And it's about seizing the moments. Like you said, it's about taking action. I remember I just started to offer up some live streaming services as well, just to help people enhance the live experience because you haven't been ... with my shows and I want to be able to create that snowball effect and just plant some seeds into people so that they could really step into their greatness and deliver their message in an unconventional manner that really creates impact connection and builds community. And then I remember I was talking to this one guy online and he goes, yeah, I'm not really looking for any vendors right now to help me out with my program and I said straight up,  for future reference, I'm not a vendor, I'm a divine connection. And when you're ready and you want to take your program to the next level, I'm here because at the end of the day, I'm giving you an opportunity to... like I'm opening up the door for you. It's up to you. Whether or not you, like you said, to seize the moment and take action. It's not just like a business proposition. This is about an opportunity  to evolve and to create innovation, to be innovative together.

Russ Johns: [00:18:27] Yeah. Yeah, collaboration is really important right now, I think. In the next decade, we're going to see a lot of community. A lot of collaboration is going to evolve. A lot of conversations are going to take place in unique and new ways. And I'm a huge advocate for video as well. And I think the live streaming and the essence of being here live and not being scripted and we're not reading off a script or anything like that. And just being real, I think, is going to be play a bigger, more important part in our future.

Reggie Waterman: [00:19:00] I'm glad you said be real. People usually say authentic and I don't... there's a few buzzwords that I don't like, which is, be authentic, pivot.

Russ Johns: [00:19:11] Yeah, you're a good dictionary of...

Reggie Waterman: [00:19:14] Yeah, I have a Rolodex full of words. Sorry. People use that word pivot. I just don't like it, but there's nothing wrong if you use it. There's no judgment here.

Russ Johns: [00:19:22] And that's the key phrase. No judgment. I don't care what you do. In fact, I will help you do what you want to do if I can help you. And  I don't have an expectation or a judgment on what's taking place in your world. However, I can provide an incredible amount of value in certain arenas. Other areas, I'm not the person to talk to. I can't do everything for everyone. However, I can do some things that are divinely important to move forward with.

Reggie Waterman: [00:19:52] Mic drop, right?

Russ Johns: [00:19:56] Yeah. That's it. If you want to move forward, here's a direction I can help you move forward in. That's alignment. That's okay. Let's get in alignment. And so many times in my life I've been out of alignment and it just seems that everything creates friction. It's friction. It's okay, I don't want to do this. I don't want to be here. I don't want to, it's just bad. And so when you're in alignment, everything just seems to flow. It's just seems to go much easier.

Reggie Waterman: [00:20:29] And don't you feel good when you're on your own island right?

Russ Johns: [00:20:34] Absolutely.

Reggie Waterman: [00:20:35] You're doing a little shimmy last time. When's the last time somebody did a shimmy on your show, Russ?

Russ Johns: [00:20:39] I think it happens typically before and after the show a lot of times.

Reggie Waterman: [00:20:43] I feel that way too.

Russ Johns: [00:20:46] Don't you have butterflies already?

Reggie Waterman: [00:20:48] Oh yeah.

Russ Johns: [00:20:50] The reality is though, is we have an opportunity to do some amazing things. We're living in an amazing time. We're connected. You're in a different country on the other side of the continent, and we're doing a show live. I'm sitting here in my car in a parking lot in Phoenix. Mind blown. Realistically, mind blown.

Reggie Waterman: [00:21:11] It took a pandemic.

Russ Johns: [00:21:13] Yeah.  It took a pandemic. So what else is going on in Reggie's life? We've got a few minutes left and I just want to wrap up. Before we wrap up, I want to let people know what you're doing, where to connect, how to connect and what greatness is going to be evolving from planet Reggie.

Reggie Waterman: [00:21:28] Yeah, outside of the the nine to five job, which I love, so big shout out to360 insights, director of marketing over there, and I manage the content. I host or facilitate a series of workshops at colleges and universities, where I am providing students with the tools that they need to succeed post-graduation, so what's not found in the average textbook, like how to deal with a challenging boss, how to network effectively, how to deal with politics, all that jazz, hosting...

Russ Johns: [00:21:54] All this stuff they don't teach you in school.

Reggie Waterman: [00:21:57] They don't teach you in school. The funny thing is I'm doing one right now with the University of Toronto. We're on our fourth week and the students love it because they're like, wow, the way he's delivering this message is completely different than listening to a professor.  The word that you use is keeping it real. That's all I do. What else do I do? I was hosting a series of different live shows of a book of the month club that I do. So I have one this month coming and then Discover your other Self, that's happening in September. I got my first acting slash modeling gig the other day. I just posted that. I'm doing  that just to embrace rejection, cause I get rejected a lot and it's fine. What else am I doing? I'm helping people produce live streams because again, it's all about enhancing that experience and building that engagement, driving leads for your business or whatever you want. Just doing a lot. I think that's it.

Russ Johns: [00:22:52] That's enough for one day.

Reggie Waterman: [00:22:53] And I actually will connect with you and because Regor is probably like one of the only people and Regor, please keep that a secret what I'm working on. But it's a platform for whatever it is, but we'll see what happens with that.

Russ Johns: [00:23:06] That's fantastic. I I'm a lot the same way. I got a lot of projects going on that I don't talk about because you just have things going on in your world and it's not because I don't want to talk about them. It's just that they're not far enough along that I really have, you have to develop something for a little while before it can actually show up. But it's fantastic. There's a lot of things that are taking place.  It's going to be an exciting year for a lot of people. And live streaming is big. We should be connecting. I need to plug you into the #PirateSyndicate and get you dialed into what's going on over there so we can collaborate for that project. And then, I'm going to work on providing some of your team a little bit of insight on some systems and processes. So we'll be able to do that and amazing how we can work together.

Reggie Waterman: [00:23:52] I'm definitely open to collaborating.

Russ Johns: [00:23:55] Regor says, congrats, Reggie.

Reggie Waterman: [00:23:59] Thanks, my man!

Russ Johns: [00:24:00] Hiett says, well done both of you. Michael Baker says it's within you. Life coaching and spirits of guidance to achievement. Absolutely. And all kinds of comments in here today. And I just really appreciate everybody that showed up and continue to show up for the #PirateBroadcast, because it's really about how we can help, who we can help. And what is going on in the world today that you'll reach out, don't stand alone, collaborate with people, have conversations, talk to people about it and get out there and take action, and just be...

Reggie Waterman: [00:24:38] just be real. And if you want to win Russ' sister's car, you have to answer the skill testing question, which is one plus two plus five minus six bracket six minus four closed bracket. And you can win that car.

Russ Johns: [00:24:57] I think it's number 42. Love you, man. I love you. I want it. I want to recap with this just for a sound bite. So if somebody happened on onto this episode, what would be the main takeaway that you'd want to share with anybody that would be listening to this particular  broadcast, this podcast, this episode.

Reggie Waterman: [00:25:18] Be unapologetic for who you are. I know a lot of us hold back who we are because of fear of judgment, fear of failure. But I think you're losing out on the opportunity to really live a fulfilling life. If you just be yourself and go after what you want, there's so many concepts that we talked about in terms of taking action. Take action to get those desired results. So that's what I'll leave with that.

Russ Johns: [00:25:47] All right, Reggie, We'll catch ya. Thank you everyone for being here because #kindnessiscool, #smilesarefree and I want you to #enjoyyourday.

Reggie Waterman: [00:25:57] You too. Bye.
