Introduction: [00:00:00] Welcome to the #PirateBroadcast™, where we interview #interestingpeople doing #interestingthings. Where you can expand your connections, your community, #kindnessiscool and #smilesarefree. Let’s get this party started.

Russ Johns: [00:00:10] Hey, with or without a guest we're here today because you know why? #kindnessiscool. Yeah, #smilesarefree. Get that out of there. All right.  I was looking forward to talking to Reyn from Pocket Change and I sent him a message and Tracie's an awesome producer and she sends up recommendations on what to do, how to do it, when to do it, reminders when to do it, where to go, how to do it, all that kind of good stuff. And apparently something came up,  I'm not sure. Because yeah, because something, I dunno. I hope he's okay. But we we're going to have the CEO from Pocket Change on today and for whatever reason... he may jump on. We'll see. But stay tuned. And I just want to remind everybody that we are having a fabulous time and I just want to remind everybody how beautiful life can be. I sent out a couple of notices and I don't know if you want to... I got a secret thing coming up and let me see if I can get it up here because I care about you. I have been sending out text messages here and there. And let me put this in the comments. Let me create a banner on this. Do you want to be a part of the pirate crew? Text me at, here we go. Okay. Let's see if I can do this. Voila! Right down below. (602) 830-5555. And you can now text me and I'm going to be sharing some inside tips, techniques, ideas, thoughts, random things, pirate thoughts. And it's a thing I'm developing. And the reason why I'm doing this is because I think it's really important for us to maintain connection just between you and I, in and out of this this thing called live, wherever you happen to be watching this from. And we've got a few people in the room. Hey, Michael Baker. Good morning pirates. Michael Baker's in the room. Love it, James Jimmy Jam loved love to see you. Hop in and spend some time here. Thank you so much. All the #gratitude. Are you staying cool in Seattle? That's what I want to know. I heard the temperatures were brutal and I'm in Arizona, so it's all relative. Howard, I know Seattle is not used to a hundred degree weather, triple digits. Elize, I just warmed my heart up thinking that you're here. And thank you so much for being here in the room. I love that you're supporting the pirate community. Thank you so much, #gratitude for all you do. Jeff, oh, you by yourself today? Good to see my #PirateBroadcast. It wasn't planned for me to be by myself. And as you know, Jeff, sometimes people's schedules get interrupted and things happen. And unfortunately I don't know what happened. I can't say,  but if you're open, I would send you a link and you could jump on and we could make this happen. Just saying, let me know. And then here we are. Luis, good morning, Russ and fellow pirates. Russ, you always keep it groovy.  Why? Let me see. Let me see, because #kindnessiscool. Randy McNeely. Hey, it was great to catch up and hang out with you on Jenny's podcast last Friday. If you haven't caught that for anyone, Jenny Gold podcast, Randy and I hung out, talked about kindness, talked about it a little bit here and there and it was really a nice conversation. Uplifting, inspiring. And Randy brought all the goods to the table. So thank you, Randy. Love you. So yes. Oh, we are cool.  Only nineties today. We can handle that. Absolutely stay cool. Jimmy, you have to participate in it to be part of it. Amen, brother. That's true. Love it. Randy McNeely who can come into the room? Anybody that has the link, anybody that has the link can come into the room. I  I guess I could post the link. We could have a party. Let's do that. I'll jump on anytime, Russ. Perfect. Michael Baker always open to be part of the show anytime. Let me see if I can do this. Let's see if we can do this. We'll just get crazy here. All right. Let me see if I can do this. Copy to clipboard. Copy pace. okay. There you go. You got the link. It's a party. Michael Baker. Fire up your camera. That's all I got to say. Hey, I just want to remind everybody also that yesterday was 450 episodes. 450 episodes of the #PirateBroadcast. I'm doing an outreach program catching up with people that I haven't contacted in a little. So if you're one of those individuals that haven't heard from Russ for awhile, sorry I'm working on that. And I talked and I sent out a little video on how I've been a little down lately. I'm not a hundred percent. Not a hundred percent connected and engaged. On Sunday, I had a turn of events that kind of inspired me. And what took place wasn't necessarily as important as that it did take place. And sometimes we just need to take a break together, pause, regenerate, regroup, and refocus. Jeff Young's in the house. All right. All right.

Jeff Young: [00:06:32] Here we are.

Randy McNeely: [00:06:33] It's the Jeff, Randy and Russ show! I love it. I've got to change my name to begin with an R.

Russ Johns: [00:06:39] We gotta pirate trio. Now I'm going to turn this off. This I'm gonna turn this StreamYard link off, but I would like you to text me at (602) 830-5555. Get on the pirate crew.. Jeff, how are you doing my friend?

Jeff Young: [00:06:56] Greetings, as you can see, I was not necessarily ready for prime time this morning.

Russ Johns: [00:07:02] Well, I love that you're here and thank you all the #gratitude in the world for both of you. Randy, you doing okay, brother?

Randy McNeely: [00:07:10] I'm fantastic. And I did just get, I just got out of the shower and just got done shaving right before I got on here.

Russ Johns: [00:07:15] You got to catch up Jeff. So Jeff, tell me, what have you been up to man?

Jeff Young: [00:07:20] I've been doing a few LinkedIn lives and a couple of podcasts and as of let's see, so we're halfway through the year and I've done 35 free seminars. I'm a little ahead of my normal, right? So I'm on a pace for 70 this year, but that's good for me. That's fine.  I'm having a good time. What I'm really looking forward to though, is actually standing up in front of a crowd and going good morning, Namaste, I'm the LinkedIn Guru face-to-face.

Russ Johns: [00:07:48] Is that going to be soon?

Jeff Young: [00:07:50] Not yet. I haven't got anything scheduled, but hopefully sometime in probably August.

Russ Johns: [00:07:56] Okay. Quick update, Jeff. What's the latest update on LinkedIn that you're really excited about.

Jeff Young: [00:08:05] Two that are neat. One called creator mode. Have you heard of that one? Creator mode reorganizes your profile and focuses on your content, puts it up at the top. That's a good thing. Everybody should have that one I think, cause I think it's completely rolled out. And the other one that was really exciting, although I wasn't really going to do it, but I decided to do it after some help. Now I'm going to give a shout out of here in a second, but the other one was something called cover story. And I don't remember, have either of you guys done that one?

Russ Johns: [00:08:35] I have not done that.

Jeff Young: [00:08:37] Cover story is one of the ones that...  creative mode you could turn on from the desktop. Cover story's when you got to go to your phone and turn on the cover story. What cover story does is allow you to put a 30 second intro video right over top of the profile picture, which is cool. Okay.

Russ Johns: [00:08:55] Interesting.

Jeff Young: [00:08:56] Now, normally the only way you can do that is from your phone. You actually have to go to your phone. If you look at your picture on a phone, it has an orange plus sign over it. You'd have the plus sign, and then you can record the video, or if you want to, if you already got something that has been recorded before that you would like to do, you could take a 30 second video you record before and upload it. Okay.

Russ Johns: [00:09:15] Oh, wow.

Jeff Young: [00:09:16] And the reason I didn't do it immediately is because it looks kinda like this guys. It's a lot like this. It's portrait style. It's talking head. It's you in front of the camera.

Russ Johns: [00:09:27] So this is what it will look like when you actually add it. Add cover story.

Jeff Young: [00:09:32] Yep, exactly. It asks you to add your cover story and you've got to do it from a mobile device. So that means an iPad or et cetera.

Russ Johns: [00:09:38] I hadn't noticed that.

Jeff Young: [00:09:39] I didn't want to do it because it's like focusing on me, my face, here I am.

Russ Johns: [00:09:43] However, I think it would be very cool for myself, Jeff, if I were to take some images of other people like you and Randy and other pirates, and then bring it into there and say, hey, join the party.

Jeff Young: [00:09:58] What I wanted to not make it about is so much about myself, but about who I serve and who I'm talking to. So shout out, belongs to someone you both know, I'm pretty sure, a lady in Las Vegas right now by the name of the Google goddess, Jillian Whitney.

Russ Johns: [00:10:13] Oh, yeah.

Jeff Young: [00:10:14] Who had already done a two minute intro video for me, which I posted on my profile. She took that two minute video and within honest to good, it felt like 30 seconds. Okay. She took 30 seconds to create a 30 second video. In 30 seconds, she basically whipped it around, moved it around and now people go to it and it brings up a part of that video. And it does not, it does have me at it, doing this, but only at the end when I say Namaste and thank you at the end. Okay.

Russ Johns: [00:10:44] So does it only show up on mobile or does it show up on your desk?

Jeff Young: [00:10:49] It shows up on both desktop and mobile.

Randy McNeely: [00:10:52] Realize it was going to come up like whoa.

Jeff Young: [00:10:55] It's supposed to get somebody's attention, right?

Russ Johns: [00:10:57] So that's fantastic. So I cannot believe we are halfway through the year.

Jeff Young: [00:11:04] Yeah, exactly. It's amazing that this has gone by this quickly. I can't believe it's been a year and a half since COVID.

Russ Johns: [00:11:10] Yeah, it's insane.

Jeff Young: [00:11:12] We're finally coming out of the other side of the woods or, I mean that, or that old joke that, I see the light at the end of the tunnel, the problem with the light at the end of the tunnel.

Russ Johns: [00:11:19] Is the light at the end of the tunnel, the train.

Jeff Young: [00:11:25] Okay. So enough about me. Randy, what are you up to?

Randy McNeely: [00:11:30] I'm doing a lot of different things. I'm working really hard to create multiple income stream options. Cause I want to be able to be a provider for my family, but doing it running fine. I'm now a brand ambassador for the national civility association, which does they come into communities. They do these amazing find the kind summits and it bring together a bunch of community leaders as well as high school student leaders and create these amazing find the kind plans too, so that they can reintroduce civility, respect, kindness back into communities and hopefully, through the process, reduce bullying, reduce bullycide we're calling it, suicide because of people have been so bullied so bad, reduced violence, reduced drug use all those things. And we've already had some success pre COVID and now we're working really hard to get back on that same track. And Jeff was saying, get back in front of an audience, live audience. I'm also in the process of bringing up the second edition of the Kindness Givers Formula. Adding a few things to it, to changing a little bit of the format, to make it a little bit more workbook style at the end of each chapter. And I've got another book in the works

Jeff Young: [00:12:33] That's cool. Wow. Another book?

Randy McNeely: [00:12:36] Another book in the works about abundance bombs. And I'll talk more about that later. How you can launch abundance bombs with kindness. Also later today I'll be posting about a new thing that I'm doing called stories for charity. I'll be posting about that on LinkedIn. each week, I'll be releasing a new short story that is inspiring, uplifting and has content that I'm going to give the audience a chance. I think I, I'm going to say upfront. I think it's inspiring, uplifting and building, but I want to know from the audience, what kind of lift is it giving you? Is it a $1 lift? Is it a $5 lift? Is it a $10 lift? Or is it more than that? If it is, pay what you feel like is, vote with your dollars, pay for the kind of lift it's giving you. And then with every dollar that's paid, a generous portion of that is going to go to support an amazing young man in Africa named Wanuli Lasuli who has built an orphanage with his bare hands taking care of 20 or twenty-five kids right now, so that they don't go through the same challenges that he went through. And it's an experiment. We'll see how it goes with me. If I do well, then we'll look at the future thought is to create a platform that other writers who want to do the same thing.

Jeff Young: [00:13:42] Have you ever heard of something called Patreon?

Randy McNeely: [00:13:45] Yeah, I've heard of Patrion.

Jeff Young: [00:13:46] Okay. Maybe you and I had a discussion about that. It's a really nice way for people to support your content or whatever you provide. Actually, I think it was originally put out there for musicians.

Randy McNeely: [00:13:56] Yeah. I need to look at that more closely because there's a great group called the piano guys.

Jeff Young: [00:14:02] Oh, I know them.

Randy McNeely: [00:14:03] Yeah. And Patreon was a big part of that. They just had their 10th anniversary. They've been very successful. Patreon was a very big part of that. I'm glad you brought that up. Thanks, Jeff.

Jeff Young: [00:14:13] No it's a kind of a new thing, as far as the industry is concerned. People don't go to production studios anymore. They do their own production, just like Russ has been doing with #PirateBroadcast, build a subscribership through something like Patreon that allows people to contribute, because if you like it, show me how much you like it. $1 worth, $5 worth, et cetera.

Randy McNeely: [00:14:32] Yeah. That's pretty much the idea for this.

Russ Johns: [00:14:37] And then Jeff you're absolutely correct. Jack Pompamus band. He was like, I can do this independently and create music and have some great events without having a record label. And so he created Papamus as a result of creating a Patreon, so he could have people donate and build a community around it and everything else. Now it's a multi million dollar organization and he's still creating music.  Him and his wife, Natalie.

Randy McNeely: [00:15:06] Patreon for short stories.

Jeff Young: [00:15:10] It works for content of any kind, right?  I subscribed to two different musicians that way that I discovered that way and just kept contributing to them.

Russ Johns: [00:15:18] I should probably fire that up and you can actually connect it to your YouTube and a couple of other platforms, there's integrations that you can do.

Jeff Young: [00:15:27] Absolutely.

Russ Johns: [00:15:28] I thought about that. Jeff and Randy, I don't know that you know this, but I've been going through this phase of creating music every day, I create a track a day and post it up on one of my websites just to share it out, just to create the creative process. And so it'd be fun to share some of that stuff out in Patreon too.

Randy McNeely: [00:15:48] Well, that, that's awesome. I'm definitely going to have to check that out.  I, man, I'm glad you brought that up.  Oh, and speaking of podcasts, I'm also the host of the kindness and happiness connection podcast. And I need to, but boy, we've got to talk after this Russ, cause I told you the other day I was going to talk to you and Jeff, you too and we need to have both of you on there. But one interesting thing, there's a magazine in the UK called wealth magazine that went through and did a listing of the top 20 kindness podcasts of 2020 and we were number 10 on the list.

Russ Johns: [00:16:19] Congrats. Congrats. You got to love that. I've been on a few lists before. It's not necessarily a good thing.

Jeff Young: [00:16:28] I know those lists.

Russ Johns: [00:16:29] That wasn't me on the post office wall.

Jeff Young: [00:16:32] Top 10.

Randy McNeely: [00:16:33] I've talked enough. Let's get back to the other people talking. I'm going to be quiet.

Russ Johns: [00:16:37] Jeff, I have a question for you now, are you doing a live stream on a regular basis? Are you doing podcasting or are you just joining other people on their shows?

Jeff Young: [00:16:45] That's it. I've done well and every single one of these that I do on a normal basis, I'll add it to my profile as well. I've done at least one a month over the last two years. So there's one a month of those. You don't have one a month is fine for me. I don't have that much to say in a live or a podcast that would be useful to  my folks. My folks, my tribe being that, folks, you want to learn how to use LinkedIn effectively. Okay. There's lots of other people that are doing it. But you guys I can understand.  I'm feeling it here. If this is the way this actually shows up to everybody else out there. Okay. I'm on a podcast or I'm on a LinkedIn live right now with two of the kindest guys on the entire planet. You guys. So I'm going like this and the point being is, it's oh my God, here I am. I'm a thorn between two roses.

Russ Johns: [00:17:31] Not at all.

Jeff Young: [00:17:32] It just amazes me. And there's so many people that are doing that kind of stuff out there now. I don't know whether LinkedIn is opening it up more for LinkedIn live or not. I wish they would. I think they should, but there are people who've been on LinkedIn 10-12 years. Obviously live hasn't been around that long, but there have been people who have been on and been asking to be on live for the entire time that live has existed and just recently got it. I haven't really felt the need to try to do that because my consistency is really in posting pretty much on a couple of times a week basis. It's not necessarily going out there and doing the live. Oh, my gosh. Oh, I just saw a name I recognize.

Russ Johns: [00:18:12] Jimmy Jam.  Kenneth Dunner. Kenny says, savor the flavor of awesomeness for you gents here, sharing the goodness with us. And there's Jenny Gold. We were talking about earlier all the kind of his folks and yeah. Michael Baker says, follow your heart, purpose and passion for it. I have to put you in the same category, Jeff, you are an amazing individual and you're always giving, you're always kind.  I'm honored to know both of you as individuals and know that we're connected and we have a community here that we can actually share a few ideas, plant some seeds and nurture some thoughts and inspire a few people around the world. It's always great to be able to hang out and have conversations like this.

Jeff Young: [00:18:57] And again, when technology goes palooey or the schedule goes palooey, that's a technical term, palooey. When that happens, that's a part of the process. Your attitude is I'm going to roll with the punches. I thought perhaps I'd watch and you would be alone today. And then all of a sudden it's anybody want to join me?

Russ Johns: [00:19:13] Jump on and have fun, hold on, have a great time. And that's the thing, that's where people miss out on time on occasion is something that goes wrong, isn't necessarily a bad thing. Think of it from another perspective. And I tell my sister this all the time. You can look at it from two perspectives, either look at it from, oh, I get to do this. And this happens for me or, oh, poor me. Once again, something breaks and I have to deal with it, but I just think that happy accidents are the things that create that excitement in our world, a little nuance in our day and things like that.

Jeff Young: [00:19:57] Well, happy accidents falling off a three story building is not necessarily a happy accident, Russ, if I recall that one, but that's true. It turned out, okay, I gotta admit.

Russ Johns: [00:20:09] You gotta make lemonades outta lemons, right?

Randy McNeely: [00:20:15] How many of you got up... I got up,  I got on here and I got on LinkedIn and I saw Russ's live. Oh, hey, I'll jump on there and see how Russ is doing, cause we were just on Jenny Gold podcast together. And now here we are, and it's a wonderful opportunity and a privilege to be able to be here with you, Russ. So thanks for doing what you do.

Russ Johns: [00:20:33] Yeah. I appreciate that. Thank you. All the #gratitude in the world and here we are once again, and I just really appreciate everybody in the community. Kenneth Dunner There you go. Wendy says Admiral, you're never sailing alone. The #piratenation is here with you. See?  Amen to that. Guys, I want to thank you for jumping on all the appreciation, all the #gratitude in the world. And like I said, I would love to share a little more details on occasion on a regular basis. And just, if you want to join the pirate crew text me at (602) 830-5555, and I'll start a conversation and we can actually enjoy something a little more intimate and a little more often. So I hope that you got big plans for the day, Randy, now that you've showered and shaved

Randy McNeely: [00:21:29] Working like crazy to  make the final edits on my short story and get stories for charity out there.

Russ Johns: [00:21:35] Fantastic. What about you, Jeff?

Jeff Young: [00:21:36] Actually for the first time, in quite a while, I'm actually going out to dinner with a friend and actually get out and about, and it's amazing how much that really feels so good. I can't tell you how good it feels to walk outside, go someplace and actually see people's faces again. It's just phenomenal.

Russ Johns: [00:21:52] Enjoy the time away and fellowship with a friend and I just really appreciate both of you. And I just want to remind everybody that we're doing this 7:30, this is episode 451. So 451 episodes. And if you want to learn how I book guests, normally I book guests. I bring this to the table. I start conversations. I follow up, I do introductions and everything. I'm putting together a mastermind through the #PirateSyndicate and I would love to have you join me. A mastermind is going to be five weeks. I'm going to limit it to 10 in the class, and we're going to go over some of the techniques and strategies and everything that goes along with how to book guests, how to book conversations, and generate and build your community up. So if you're interested in that, drop me a message, drop me a DM. Let me know, because I really want to help more people out, and this is one way I can do it. So I really appreciate you. And for everybody out there, you know what they say? What is it that they say? #kindnessiscool?

Randy McNeely: [00:23:01] Yeah.

Russ Johns: [00:23:02] #kindnessiscool and #smilesarefree

Randy McNeely: [00:23:06] Amen to that.

Russ Johns: [00:23:07] Take care. Gentlemen, take care. Bye-bye
